Moving on to Shamen statements. Obviously, you dont like Bush or his adminstration, not really a surpise, I dont care if you do or not. Living in a democracy, we get to choose our own leaders, and im sure living in this country is better then in Romania, where back in the 90s, you guys fought againts Ceausescu goverment.
:D |
Considering that he has already proven that he is an expert in corruption, and that he can't handle the budget he has been given of a country, I personally dont think Bush would be any better than Ceausescu if he was given absolute power. I would never blindly follow any political leader regardless of party. The thing that has made the U.S. & Canada great countries for so long is that our leaders do have to answer to the voters. One thing I have learned alot from political science is that neither communist nor the far right care about the personal freedoms of anyone else. Seriously other than:
Communism - the government owns everything & makes the rules
Fasciast Theocracys - businesses own everything, and fanatic religious rulers make the rules & twist them to gain absolute control
the two have alot in common, since they both have one goal - absolute control. Alot of people in the Republican party are trying to hijack America and turn it into a theocracy. Mixing Religion & state always have bad results. The results in the Middle East are horrible ( and the Taliban are far from representing true Islam ), Northern Ireland ( where we had Christians murdering Christians disrespecting the most important of the 10 commandments - thy shall not kill ), Colonial America ( the Salem witch trials & the thousands of "witches" also burned in Western Europe" ), and in the Balkans ( where politicized religion & ethnicity turned peaceful people into mass killers when there was a power vacuum left by the fall of communism ).
As someone who believes in a free & democratic America - I will never support Communism & I will never support the Republican party as long as the listen to fasciast fanatics like Pat Robertson.
"Religious or ethnic Facsism & Communism are both eqally bad - it's hell on earth", and that was from my aunt who lived in Europe during Nazi & communist rule. |

wow, I hope Brazil breaks the patents, those drug companies are a bunch of crooks, do it!
I don't really see what the big deal is about prostitutes passing out condoms, it does seem a bit strange for catholics though. It seems the fundamental disagreement here is that in America we are told to repress our urges, while in Brazil they encourage responsible indulgence. It has a parallel with so many other issues, people are gonna have sex, I think we in the US should just accept that fact and switch into harm reduction mode rather then staying in repression mode.
I have always admired Brazil, the people are insanely sexy and their music is great fun. They don't seem to be suffering from the lack of funds from America, so its a win win situation for both of us, they fight aids, we keep our friggin money!
and for the record I have nothing against America, I really love my country and am glad to have been born here. So before we go spouting off about how people who admire different countires are unamerican, I just wanted to make that clear. I just think it is wise to recognize when somebody else has a good idea, and it is important to complain when something is happening that makes life in the USA less enjoyable, if you really loved your country you wouldn't hesitate to identify her problems. |

Lets see where do I start. You know, your saying that non-americans know more about America then Americans do, true, very true actually. You know why that is? Because we are so powerfull, people want to know about us, people want to watch our movies, people want to spent thousands just to come visit the US. Now, im not really aware of Australia, sure, its beautiful, nice kangaroos, maybe some even hot girls here and there, but why the hell would I want to study about Australia? I mean, whats so great about your country. Your countries population started as a result of British sending prisoners there, if im not mistaken. No hard feelings there, I have nothing againts Australia. In fact im thankful that your goverment sent troops to Iraq, so thanks mate.
You call yourslef a christian, and from other previous posts in here, your all about gay rights, abortion, things that arent so christian, maybe you shouldnt call yourself a christian.
:D |
wow,
You'll find that a significant portion of early America hosted debtors, exiles, and convicts, much like Australia. Our roots are somewhat similar, we would do well to learn more about Australia. It isn't like we are all that powerful either, our technology is stagnating, our people are getting fat and lazy, our schools are way behind compared to other countries and we are making some powerful enemies. If we aren't careful we could have a large portion of the world united against us, we can't just romp all over the earth and do whatever the we want, because we share this planet with the rest of the world and they outnumber us.
speaking of christianity, ever heard of "judge not lest you be judged"? crikey man, we can almost taste the hypocrisy in you post. There are many interpretation of God's word and the approach taken in churches today just maybe could be the wrong one. Would Jesus approve of Christians lynching gay people? You have to realize that life was different in the days of the bible, the situations we find ourselves in these days require new ideas, and we shouldnt try and argue that Christ hates gay rights and abortions because he never really said we should be doing what we are doing right now. The spirit of Christ's teachings is the important point, dwelling over the details and trying to create policy based on scripture is the wrong idea, the bible isn't meant to spell out our laws, it is a guide to how individuals can lead fufilling lives. |

I love America too, but I love the real America.
I know some people whom I, without reservation, would call "real Americans." By that I mean their spirit and attitude to life. They are rugged, individualistic, extremely independent, pragmatic, down-to-earth. They have the spirit of pioneers. They are self-reliant and rugged like that writer Henry David Thoreau, who lived in the woods for a few years to be closer to nature, and then wrote about it.
But these uptight Christian zealots are not true Americans. Telling others what to do is completely un-American, because the real American spirit is one of taking care of yourself and letting others do their thing. Don't you agree? Whining that the government or FCC doesn't protect you from the horror of a naked nipple on TV is disgustingly un-American, because first of all you're whining that a government needs to protect you, and secondly you're being childish. For God's sake when JFK was young and he was on a warship scared less he was gonna die and kept whining, his superior HIT him on the f*cking face. Now that's what America is about -- Be A Man. Stop whining. Pull your pants up and suck it up.
Whining about abortions is un-American... ANY whining, or religious/moralistic noise, is un-American! AND, it flies in the face of American individualism and down-to-earth pragmatism. You know that young black Chicago politican (Obama?) who keeps saying "Americans are very practical, down-to-earth people"? Well, that describes the real Americans, not conservatives or partisan "talking heads" or Republican apologists... |
