Ok ... I'm still slightly confused. Was this a joke about the moderators of the PDD? Despite a personal opinion that some things have gone to , I'm still of the opinion that the lack of moderation here (as opposed to the hand holding we see in the COR) is still preferrable. But if that's not what you mean than whatever. |

lol dude i said doesn't matter. i think it was shamen who mentioned on the previous page that some people on here actually want to go ahead and jump into politics so i just said that would be pretty unfortunate. |

Ahh I understand. Perhaps the only person here that I could see leading a legitmate poltical career is probably Vesa. Everyone else gets more emotional than they probably should from a political PR standpoint. Last I heard, he was really into one of Finland's political parties from a non-recreational standpoint. Not that I don't think some people here would make excellent decision makers/leaders, I just don't think that many can cope with the frustrations and side-dealings that come with politics. |

These analogies aren't very well done in my opinion: we don't debate in this forum to create products that are sold or presented to an awful lot of people (like Tiesto's music), neither to win matches in a competition. We debate here because we find it interesting and feel the need to voice our opinion. |
I've been unclear on my analogies then. I assumed that Tiesto loves producing, and assumed that soccer player play to have fun. In general it's not much fun doing something you're good at if you constantly have to adjust your level down to that of people who sucks. No matter if it's producing, doing sports, or debating. |

Tiesto doesn't know how to produce though :eyes:
as of this post, PDD is officially the second COR |

What the hell...!? I come here lurk wondering what people will say about Milosevic and I find people saying weird stuff about Brazil. Kinda makes me feel more confortable, as I know what's going on this time :D
First of all,
The thread title doesn't make any sense whatsoever, and the first post is full of misconceptions. As a matter of fact, this has been going on for quite a while, so I'm surprised it's still being discussed. Therefore, saying words such as "Brazil tells the USA to F... [sic] off (...)" couldn't be further from the truth: not only this includes the biased opinion of the thread starter, (it seems) it also quotes a random citizen, rather than someone in the government.
Now, let's focus on the problem, shall we?
If there's any "clash" here, it would be between the Brazilian government (among other countries) and the pharmaceutical industry: Brazil, in its own right, wants to assist its citizens and the pharmaceutical industry, in their own right, want to protect their intellectual property. No "puritanism" here, as you can see. Brazil's sought a rather independent stance in a myriad of issues (this being one of them) and this is just one of them: Fighting AIDS requires lot less resources, apparently, than treating infected people for years. Being a nation that has to choose wisely what to do with its money, it's only natural that Brazil's decided to take this approach.
Now, as for the differences on how AIDS is fought in Brazil and in America, don't expect the situation here to be the exact opposite. The Brazilian Catholic leaders don't seem to condone this fight: they'd rather promote celibacy, exactly the way its done in the US. Also, we're not THAT liberal - countless times I've heard former exchange students who studied in the US saying that Americans are "crazy" when it comes to their sexuality, although this kind of commentary can't be taken too seriously due to its subjectivity.
This is where I stop talking - I don't know the American society well enough, so I would end up making empty speculations. We've had enough of that already. |
