I don't really see what the big deal is about prostitutes passing out condoms, it does seem a bit strange for catholics though. It seems the fundamental disagreement here is that in America we are told to repress our urges, while in Brazil they encourage responsible indulgence. It has a parallel with so many other issues, people are gonna have sex, I think we in the US should just accept that fact and switch into harm reduction mode rather then staying in repression mode.

I have always admired Brazil, the people are insanely sexy and their music is great fun. They don't seem to be suffering from the lack of funds from America, so its a win win situation for both of us, they fight aids, we keep our friggin money!

and for the record I have nothing against America, I really love my country and am glad to have been born here. So before we go spouting off about how people who admire different countires are unamerican, I just wanted to make that clear. I just think it is wise to recognize when somebody else has a good idea, and it is important to complain when something is happening that makes life in the USA less enjoyable, if you really loved your country you wouldn't hesitate to identify her problems.

A post on topic, now that's a good turn after yet another generic "omg america sucks" vs "omg i luv my country you liberal fags".

The issue here is the US cutting out the money on Brazil for disagreeing with their policies. Of course, the US are a country not a charity organization, and can do whatever the they want with their cash. Still, it indicates the US want to force their views on the subject on other countries. Which is particularly disturbing to me since I absolutely disagree with the whole "abstinence is the answer" thing as it is backed by reasons that are more religious than logical.

Then again the patents/drug companies deal certainly is a big lobbying factor in this whole scheme, it always sadden/disgusted me the way these companies in the end take advantage of the people that suffer. I feel they get a disproportional share of the whole health income cake, but someone has to create the medicines and it'd be completely utopic to throw them out of the mix alltogether.

They dont seem to be suffering. One of my friends recently went there for a month and said it was the best time in his life, and said much of Sao Paulo was real nice, and the people there were extremely friendly and the parties there were awesome. Also just 2 days ago I read an article in the Washington Post that predicted Brazil & India to be the fastest growing consumer markets in the world, and while I can't remember the exact numbers, the number of people earning over $20 000 ( U.S. value ) is skyrocketing.

Also what is the political situation in Raleigh, NC - are most people fed up with Bush? Just wondering. Virginia's election sure pissed off alot of Republicans last fall when certain consistantly republican counties ( especially Conservative Loundoun Co. ) turned Democrat. I suspect Jerry Kilgores photo ops with Bush certainly helped him loose.

Whining about abortions is un-American... ANY whining, or religious/moralistic noise, is un-American! AND, it flies in the face of American individualism and down-to-earth pragmatism.

Wait a sec... sooo other people "whining" about issues you agree with is un-american.

However, you "whining" about how america sucks is being a "real" american?

...
...

People have such polarized views on this board its scary.
