| Harder to be just a vinyl dj these days, with lot of promos floating around as cd form only. |

Carl is exclusively on CDs now.
From a recent interview:
Q:
I’ve always loved watching you DJ, seeing you sweating your face off and I’ve always been transfixed by your dexterity with vinyl on three turntables. Are you still a vinyl hold-out?
A: I’ve gone over to CDs, now. I’m using three Pioneer CDJ-1000s, or the Pioneer DVJ-X1, it doesn’t matter which. I find myself more challenged now using CD players, actually. For many years, I was using only turntables, for like 30 years of my life! There’s a lot more you can do with CD players, and using them challenges me to do better as a DJ and to push elements of DJing more than I could ever do with turntables. What people get to hear is something unique, and it shouldn’t matter whether I play it on vinyl or CDs. In fact, I’m not using any vinyl anymore; that chapter is closed, for me.
Barbara is not exclusively on CD like Carl, but during her set @ Stereo last December she was playing a lot on CDs.
I am still 100% a vinyl gal. I would like a CDJ to round out my equipment, tho. |

I'm about |---| that close to switching over to CD's...Mainly for convinience/less hauling. Although archiving all of my vinyl is going to be a nightmare:eek:
Still, theres something magical about crate digging, and finding that gem.
Dumonde still uses vinyl I believe? |

Dj Rush is still 100% vinyl and has stated he pretty much plans to stay that way for various reasons, but he is definitely a minority in the biz.
I think for some of the other reasons mentioned in this thread, promo factor and such, most of the big touring djs aren't using exclusively vinyl anymore, even at Dance Valley for example, apparently pretty much *every* DJ was just using the CDJs from what I heard... most of the people that I hear of now taking up the hobby are going digital as well.
I have a sizeable collection of mp3s but I am still 100% vinyl!
I will make use of the rest someday when I either invest in final scratch or get a cdj. |
