You're talking about productions you think are good when the issue is with his abilities as a DJ and not his abilities as a producer (though many TA's may dispute those as well).

When I saw him DJ, he broke the sound system by completely red-lining the mixer.

i've seen him DJ once... he wasn't *BAD*, his mixing was okay, just there didn't seem to be any progression to his set & all the tunes sounded pretty samey to me

as a producer, i think he's technically great but artistically lacking

so pretty much the same in both i guess, heh

Artistic = The aspect that involves composing, arranging, music theory, the actual 'creation' or 'invention' of the piece in musical terms.

Technical = The aspect that involves using the equipment (sequencers, samplers, synths, etc) to produce sounds, effects, and tweak the final product to produce the best sound possible.

what is there to explain? :conf:

i think he is competant in the studio; he knows how to mix down a track and have it sound punchy, warm, clean, three dimensional, full without being cluttered, and have it sound good on a club system. i can also tell he puts alot of time into perfecting small details & manipulating samples, such as cutting them up, reversing them & adding varying types of effect to them

however this doesn't (imo) make him a good artist, it makes him a good engineer. every one of his tracks i've found dull & quite formulaic with little creativity, re-using the same style of bassline, twinkly synths & vocal manipulation. never once have i heard one of his tracks in a set and thought "damn, that stands out", or really acknowledged it at all even

but whatever. it's all been said before
