Hmmm...its probably due to the fact that I don't DJ and have not too much of an interest in it yet, I prefer producing. I wouldn't say I have low standards, I can appreciate a good DJ, It just isn't top of my list to analyse the DJ's skill whenever I go out. It's all about the music for me. |

Your point sense also, but I just think that a DJ I am paying good money to see should be up to par. If a guy is playing good tracks but ing up all over the place or making quick, boring, ty transitions, it ruins it for me. Especially considering how many bedroom DJs are technically very very good, and have similar if not better track selecting skills.
I just feel that if I'm paying to see one of the big guys, its their job to impress me, not to half ass it. |

Yeah obviously there is a standard that must be reached, the guy must be able to mix 2 tracks together without ing up all over the place, and be able to beatmatch.
I see your point though too, as a DJ yourself, then obviously you are going to notice the skills of a DJ more than someone like me with no experience in it. |

Yeah, its weird with non dj friends cause I'm just used to listening so carefully that I catch even small slips...that my friends never notice. So I'm going "ehhhh...put it back!" and they're like "What?"

I can totally see where you're comming from.
I see a good DJ as someone who plays good tunes that rock the crowd even if he's playing the worst song that's ever been made.
You see a good DJ as someone who not only rocks the crowd with great tunes, but is also skillfull in the nuances (mixing, pacing, unique tracks and all that jazz) in the art of DJing.
This argument is just going to turn into this: What makes a good DJ? So let's agree to disagree.
I'll just say this:
You see people with who's attitude I'm arguing for are encouraging DJs and producers to play and produce the same boring overdone $hit. While I do agree, I also think it's important to dance. If a DJ plays DJ Sammy - Boys of Summer, a song that I despise and hate, and if the majority of the crowd is just rocking out to it then I'll feed off that energy and dance to it too. The DJ read the crowd and gave them what they wanted.
Dance music was originally made for people to dance to. If the people dance to it, then the song has done what it was made for.
Tiesto and DJ Sammy are good DJs since people enjoy DANCING to what they play. This is comming from a person who doesn't like DJ Sammy's music or Tiesto's music. |

You're the classic mindless dj worshipper. All hype... no substance. All that matters to you is what dj is popular, not whether they actually deserve their popularity or whether they are good. Please think a little more critically. |
