Why do the words "American" or "Unites States" bother Canadians?

I've been here 3 years and I have noticed that people here do NOT like hearing those words. Just yesterday, I was at a walk-in clinic, and the doctor asked where I was from. I told her "U.S.", and she goes " oh ur from the US, huh. Well we r not as fancy as the US and we treat our patients better." I'm like wtf? All I asked was for my test results. LOL.
Some more comments made by people here:
"Oh so ur a Yankee, eh. Yea you guys are bad news. Always invading people."
How come you guys always want to go to war
Now I'm not 100% sure Canadians are aware that the American people don't choose to go to war or create such policies but the American Gov't does but that is the case.
What I'm wondering is why is there such a bad liking for anything American? Is it in your blood?> or just personal preference- if so, why?
(Serious reply's please. Thanks) |

inferiority complex.
its a cultural thing started by molson canadian commercials, fueled even further by incompetent media, our own stupid government, and that one time George Bush forgot to say "thank you" for helping out during the 9-11 thing.
the anti-americanism even pisses me off |

*waits Jayx1's comment about Canadian inferiority complex* :D :D :D
Which is kinda true, since Canada does its damnest to differentiate itself from US. (No matter how similar both cultures are, due to transfusion of media in general)
Starts from the federal govt. Because anti US has always been popular in Canada ever since the American Revolution.
Also a lot of Canadians share a more liberal ideology.
Plus a lot of immigrants from country that got shafted or have a tradition of anti American stance.
US being hated by a lot of the world lately.
Seems like enough reasons for not wanting to be like Americans. |

| It's about time foreigners realize that it's us, the general population, that makes the decisions to go to war and talk about other countries, NOT the government. |

For a country that has 90% of its population within 300km of the border with the US, we sure do bitch a lot.
Not to mention our economic dependence (via trade) upon the US.
(99% of GM cars made here are sold in the US) |

I dontlike that new abortion law theyre trying to put in place in atleast one state (though I think its a couple more too)
making it illegal to get an abortion for ANY REASON short of preventing a life-threatening circumstance to the mother!
THAT.
Pro Choice IMO
