alright anyway, so what do u call songs like:

chable & bonnicci - ride
holden - break in the clouds
central rush - out of focus

for example??? they're not house, they're not trance, they're Just Progressive.

Chable and Bonnici - Ride is clearly Progressive House with trancey elements....It's also similar in nature to Cosmos - Take Me With You (obviously house) but has a more rolling bassline.http://www.discogs.com/release/193033

Discogs has A Break in the Clouds Listed as different things all not progressive or progressive house so it's always a matter of opinion when it comes to genre bending tracks like that....Holden is the king of un-classified tracks. I'd say it's progressive house but it's also very minimal-tech sounding as well..http://www.discogs.com/release/171075

I honestly don't know that Central Rush track :(

This is exactly what I was saying. As far as the tracks Lunasea posted I actually consider them melodic Progressive House. They're not trance but contain a housey beat with trancey elements. Alot of Matthew Dekay's tracks can be classified in that way as well ie. "If I Could Fly" and Steve Porter - "Definite Form"

Right, but instead of citing really long definitions for types of songs like "melodic progressive house with trancey elements," somewhere along the line those tracks became known as progressive / prog tracks. Thats a pretty widely accepted term for that kind of music, not just on TA, but from those artists themselves.

"Ride" is straight progressive, there really isn't anything trancey about the track. It has a melody, but thats not a trance riff.

I agree with you though, "A Break in the Clouds" is not progressive. A lot of Holden's tracks blur the genre lines and that track is hard to classify.

i don't agree with the crazy obsession peopel have with fitting tracks into a clear cut genre. My only point is that progressive / prog is an accepted sub genre that is different than progressive house and progressive trance.

The melodic part was a description not a definition. Those tracks are imo progressive house and Porter of course is one of the leading Progressive House Djs around right now with his upbeat and funky progressive house tracks.

right, but thats how new genre terms come about...so people don't have to use a bunch of descriptive terms to describe a sound.

haha, absolutely. getting people to accept that as a sub-genre might be tough though.

I would agree it is a genre of its own.
