Avalon issues?

| Ok, I don't quite understand why alot of you have problems with the crowd at Avalon. The biggest problem is 'the vibe'. Myself, as well as all my friends, and the TAs here that frequent Avalon don't seem to have had any problems with 'the vibe' or crowd or whatever. So I ask this, to the few of you on here that have had problems...what are they? I think Dave said something about getting bumped into and Michelle complains about the penis dance. I mean is that it? Welcome to a crowded club. It happens. |

| i guess the dirty crowd is something you get used to when you're partying amongst them weekend after weekend, but as someone who visits avalon 3-4 times a year, the crowd is a big culture-shock and is a pretty big storm cloud over my night. i keep going for the headliners, sound system and lighting, but i'm more used to the smaller spundae sf-ruby skye, mezzanine, mighty type crowds and what makes them different is the crowd isn't overtly cracked out, shut off and mostly male. i'm used to a crowd that isn't pushy and rude because they are so out of it they don't know any better, that kinda just stares at you all the time and not a lot of friendly smiles and yes a majority on the dance floor are dudes or dudes with their girl, not a lot of fish in the sea. avalon is also the first club i've been to and seen an e-puddle in the middle of the main floor. i've also never seen so many asian washing machines in a club before and that's a huge vibekiller. last fundacion was particularly annoying cause there was a guy behind me facing the other way with his maytag gf and he kept leaning his back against mine and pushing me forward. i kept pushing him back with my elbow in his kidney but he would not get the point. i even told him to his face twice there's no need to push! i guess this is a big problem with most high capacity clubs though... most of the crowd goes there to get ed out of their mind on drugs and look at cool visuals, very few people actually know/appreciate the music. also i've never seen a more clustered front entrance/line to a club in my life. and avalon books the most god awful opening and closing djs i've ever heard, EVER. just an overall poorly run operation with all the best potential at its disposal... |

Problems:
1.) Washing Machine Dancers
2.) Penis Dancers
3.) The FOB dancers (the horny middle eastern dudes)
4.) Transvestites
5.) Crackheads
6.) Drama with guestlists (why doesnt Spundae ever have problems with that?)
7.) The lines. (why doesnt Spundae ever have problems with that?)
8.) That stupid VIP section that makes the rest of the crowd feel inferior.
9.) The crowd is too "Hollywood", which makes you feel like the people are just there to hook up, rather than enjoy the music.
10.) Atleast 50% of the crowd doesn't even understand the music or know what DJ is playing
I'd still pick Avalon over Spundae any day, because they get better quality DJ's, the actual venue is great, and the sound system kicks ass. |

It is my experience at Avalon that a good portion of the people are there to do whatever they want, and they don't care how that eefects the people around them. Spilling drinks, pushing people, grabbing asses and that kind of stupid , that sometimes leads people to fights and other kinds of behaviours that are notg enjoyable.
Not to mention Avalon is a pain in the ass to get into.
All that aside, Last night was a non-usual Avalon experience. This is why you have to love Tiesto and the 18+ crowd. The younger kids brought a lot more energy than I normally see there, and most people were having a great time. I had no wait in line, walked right in. If only it was always like that.
The vibe for me is where it's at, that is one of the biggest reasons I go clubbing. Is for the energy I feel when the crowd is loving the DJ. Everybody likes different kinds of DJ's, so you will have different kind of vibes. Since different people will show up to different events. Last night with Tiesto and the first show Ferry did of his residency are some of the best clubbing experiences I have had, anywhere.
In general, Spundae is 100 times better when it comes to peoples ways of being and positive energy.
Avalon has a energy around it that is dark and sometimes people think they have permission to do things there that are not acceptable in most places in society.
Hope that answers your question.
All that being said, I petition for all the best DJ's to go to Vanguard and Spundae. The Vanguard vibe is always great! |

Not to mention that The Vanguard has the best sound system in Hollywood. Funktion 1 FTW! |

I personally don't really have a problem with "the vibe" of Avalon, but the biggest reason that I personally don't like Avalon is the layout of the club. The problem with a used to be a theater now a club place like Avalon is that to get a drink you have to somehow make your way out of the dance floor, get your drink and then somehow find your way back to the dance floor which is a real pain because the side areas are so small and usually filled with people especially if you were dancing somewhere near the front near the DJ. It's even worse if you have to go to the restroom because it's either in the lobby where the attendant tries to shake you down for a "tip" or take a hike upstairs and then make your way all the way back down to the dance floor and good luck trying to squeeze your way back to the front again. At least at Circus, even when it was PACKED last time for Armin, it was easy to move around from the dance floor to either bathroom, get near the front and bars with relative ease since there are ways in and out from either side of the DJ booth and huge opening to the new area to get out of the main area. So there are actually more people at Circus than Avalon on big nights like Armin but you don't have to deal with all of the crowded pushing/shoving at Avalon with less people because there is still room to move.
Maybe the other part of "the vibe" difference between the two places is that people seem to be more relaxed/chill at Circus? I know there have been a couple of times at Circus where if someone has bumped into me, they are like, "Sorry man, my bad." but at the same time at Avalon I've gotten a, "WTF man? Watch where you are going." |

Exactly! If only we lived in a world where only Funktion 1 was the only speaker system you could buy. |

Miss Julia...................we're all not penis dancers!!! There's definitely alot of penis dancers, but I think I've proven myself.
Avalon- way too many asians, though I'm asian. I like when there's big dj's like Sander, Sasha cuz it draws in a diverse crowd. I totally agree with the washing machine peeps on the dance floor, WTF is up with that? That's not dancing, it's clinically insane. Puddle cuddles are LAME, MOVE OVER TO THE STEPS AND LET PEOPLE DANCE!! Spundae is awesome cause people run around having a good time, all on the same level of energy. Avalon is great, I love dancing there but I totally understand other peoples' view about vibe. Luckily I'm on the stage and I zone out so I don't experience bad vibes, but when I walk on the dance floor sometimes, I get irritated now and again and I feel like the vibe changes from about 4am on. But overall, I still enjoy dancing there. That's just my 2 cents. |

personally i think a much higher % of asians go to Spundae, but that's probably b/c they follow the trance crowd and Spundae plays much more trance on a regular basis.
at Avalon, i've never had any problem with anyone being rude, etc. there. i do avoid going into the middle of the dancefloor with the 'washing machines', but its so loud in there anyway, i'm happy to dance farther away.
if you have presales you nowadays get in extremely quick on normal nights. the nights that have the concerts at 8pm have proven to be a problem in terms on a speedy entry. i always go late on those nights.
i don't know why a lot of people criticize the 'hollywood' crowd there. if someone wants to go out on a Sat nite to a big club and they have no idea who the DJ is, what is it your right to criticize? if they want to pay $$$ for a bottle and a sofa to sit in, again what's wrong with that? They aren't bothering you!
you people don't seem to understand that Avalon can't bring in the top names every week and try to fill it with EDM knowledgeable fans. The financial #s don't work that way.
i've never seen a e-puddle there but i've seen some e-lakes at Spundae :conf:
i guess i'm unlucky that no one's ever grabbed my ass there, but i did have a hottie check the package last time :happy2: |
