My car has been in a garage since Sunday 21st may, should get it back on saturday.
Cam belt was obliterated while overtaking on the motorway at 80mph. Bent 7 of my 8 valves!
Total cost? £550 ($1,030.72)

Yup, Sucks!
I had just got money put together to do an online course then this happens.

Oh well, Lottery tonight *Crosses fingers*

i really don't know much about cars. :\

Neo - it's a '98 Honda Accord LX coupe, and the mileage is just over 127k miles. the timing belt has never been changed since i've owned the car, and i bought the car 3 years ago with 42k miles. so i knew beforehand that it had to be replaced, but i decided to wait and have it done somewhere else for cheaper instead. i told them to go ahead only with the repairs that were causing the car to run bad.

what a load of BS assuming of course the aftermarket ones fitted were the correct grade, you will have no problems with them.
I also assume that the car was running ok with those sparkplugs up until recently, if so then the mech that told u that is a bullter!

Misfiring can be caused by spark plugs not working correctly if they are either misadjusted (the sparking gap) or contaminated (oil on the electrodes or water inside the plug wells of the engine) or are the wrong grade and if they was the wrong grade, you would have had probs with them since fitment.

Misfiring can also be caused by incorrect timing (your timing belt may have jumped a tooth due to it being very old), worn or perished high tension leads, distributor not correctly aligned, rotor arm worn out, worn distributor cap or in the case of electronic ignition, a faulty module.

yeah i just got part of my tax return yesterday... i was hoping to use $125 of it towards school and the remainder to pay off some credit card debt!

and yeahhhhhhhhhhh... wtf... i just got another call from the dealership saying that my left front wheel bearing needs to be replaced as well.

triple double ultra pwned.

:(

i bitched though, and they're giving me 10% off the total, which brings it to about $1200.

Ask them why they were bothering to take the wheel off to look at the bearing when your paying them by the hour to sort out your engine!!!
I'd refuse to pay for the bearing, has it being making a constant grinding noise? If not then it shouldnt be replaced.

i got seriously pwnd this month...
in january we bought a 1999 subaru outback legacy and a last month when eli was driving home from work a rod broke in the engine. So we took it into the shop and sure enough the engine crapped out and we had to get a new one. I wasn't going to buy a used one that knowing my luck would crap out too, so i had to dish out $7000 for a rebuilt one. ouch. So eli had to drive our truck to work and the day that i was sent to the hospital to be induced for labour, he left work to meet me at the hospital and the head gasket went in the truck and antifreeze started leeking into the oil... so we were reduced to driving our jeep TJ that we have been trying to sell the last 6 months.

f*ck car repairs indeed.

they finished all the other repairs and then took it for a road test, and they noticed that there was a loud howling sound coming from the front of the car. i had noticed this for a while now, especially because it gets louder at higher speeds. i just never bothered to get it fixed because again, i can't afford it.

the right rear wheel bearing is actually something that i had to have replaced last year, now this time it's the front left wheel bearing.
