Rule #1 for house parties (pg. 3)

This thread is SUPER! Countless number of times idiots would come to request R&B or Hip Hop. Thank god I have decks, CDs wont work. But chicks do dig those music, i turned them down nicely a couple of times:( Oh well, looks like the best rule is to NOT play at house parties unless it is the right crowd!

i love house parties.
in fact most of my mates dont go clubbing on weekends anymore and prefer to throw house parties. normally the parties start out as a get together with some mates but end up as some crazy afterhours session till 11am in the morning with strangers lying passed out all over the house.
i sometimes get invites to other parties and no matter what music is played i try my best to enjoy myself.
i'll normally only play at parties that play a genre i'm into but there have been times when i was trashed / enjoying myself enough where i taken over to drop some hiphop or indie stuff too.

the important thing is to have fun.

I think the real first rule is keep the beer away from the Tables, and mixer. I've seen a vestax taken out by a Corona, and a 1200's pitch killed with a Miller Light. The 1200 lived on after a new pitch, but the vestax was never the same.

I was about to say that a pitcher of beer can't kill a 1200.

Yeah I'd much rather find that out with a friend's equipment too.

at my party on friday, the bartender came up to me in the dj booth and said some people requested hip hop. I was like, the sign out in front by the door says "HOUSE MUSIC TONIGHT". I told her that I was the promoter and we had been promoting HOUSE MUSIC. She shut up and left the dj booth. My friend overheard her talking at the bar saying "If I was a DJ I wouldn't be playing this ." Haha. in hoe.

true dat. what pissed me off was that ive had 3 parties there before. playing the same music. and those events were quiet successful. this last event sucked in terms of turnout. musically it was one of the best. so this bartender should be familiar with the format of the event that I promote there. stupid ignorant hoe. LOL. I chose to compromise a little bit and I played Black Eye Peas vs. Pryda - My humps vs. Aftermath. I didn't want to but if some people wanted hip hop, I would give them a lil hip hop flavored house. That worked out ok.

good question. i didnt wanna play it, but the dancefloor wasn't looking so hot so I wanted to play something that everybody would know. The people in my city are not very educated on dance music. I could play "Satisfaction" and "Shiny Disco Balls" and people would come up to me saying im the greatest DJ they've ever heard. Haha. I made a decision to play that song...although a compromising move...for the sake of the dancefloor. to get more people out there, especially the chix. As a DJ sometimes you gotta do that.

one lil caveat came when I played a party with a bunch o stripers and a stripper pole. Yea I put on a hip hop compilation cd and sat front row...

hehe, still got paid ;)
