Tipping bartenders/waitresses is a MUST (unless u are not satisfied with the service. the excuse, that A GUY surved you is lame)! Thats how economics work! We had a thread on that, i dont wanna go back...

u just have to accept it... otherwise drink at home, if you are soo cool

And it's not a "North American" tradition

the "North American" tradition is to keep whining about EVERYTHING

Is it just me or am I the only one who thinks you should tip your bartender whether its a dude or a chick????? I dont know...everyone has their own way of doing things.....

However, I dont think not tipping justifies the bartender not serving you anymore.....I guess that just a chance you take if you're not going to tip. Now you're going to have to walk all the way across the club to another bar! lol

Bartender does have have the power to decide weather to serve a customer or not; ONLY if that person is intoxicate then the bartender can refuse to serve.

Bartender is simply a customer service job. Just like being a waiter or waitress and their job is serving customer, period. They EXPECT customers to tip but that attitude of expecting has created being fake or kiss-ass to their customers. When serving to customers, they are you Kings & Queens. Their wishes are you command.

Tipping a bartender is not mandatory at all. It has turned in North America into a custom because most people think it is cheap when people do not tip. Take a look at other countries where customer service is leading by an example.

+1
if i was a bartender and some cheap didnt tip me then he/she would get service from me, if any service at all. if you are really too cheap to tip $1 per drink then you really should just be staying home.. or hang out in a library.

See i will tip waiters/waitresses at a restaurant no problem, as they are actually serving you for some time and taking care of your needs, refilling your drinks, ensuring the food is good etc etc.

but for a bartender, to turn around, open the fridge, pop the cap and hand you a drink, to me doesn't warrant a tip. On the other hand, if i go and ask the bartender to mix me a few drinks etc etc, then id tip for her time.

and economics starts from the customer's wallet, so the customer decides.

Also, a beer probably costs them less than a dollar, and they make 500% profit on it...thats economics.....but since they are making such profits, i leave the onus on the bar manager to pay its staff well.

If drinks are cheaper im more inclined to tip

you said it yourself.
stop complaining about the bartender's service because YOU are cheap. you are old enough to know that bartender's service also starts from the customer's wallet.
go to the beer store and buy a 24 and chill at home.

Tipping is designed to redistribute income (one of the many shadow forms of communism hidden within capitalism).

As a professional shadow communist when I'm trying to decide between two products i'll tell the salesperson "i'll take whichever gives you the most commission/margin".

In extreme situations if I suspect the markup is low on a product in a mom and pop business i'll ask the owner to increase the price :nervous:

if you think that tipping is a must my guess is that you worked in bartending/serving industries and got really pissed when somebody didn't tip you.

I hate when servers or bartenders act like YOU OWE THEM A TIP. NO I dont owe you a tip, I can choose to give u if i find your SERVICE better then mediocre.

Of course if u are in a nice restoraunt and u got a meal, then yea u should tip. but at the bar? haha that

It's all been discussed at length HERE. Bump the thread if you want to, but that discussion is closed. I forgot what was the actual reason we discovered that people in NA are accustomed to tipping, but I remember it was pretty ing stupid. Check the end of the thread - I summarized it there.

no, the bartender does not have the right to decide who gets served and who does not. Thats up to the management. The bartender's job is to serve whomever wants a drink and in proper order of first come first serve.

And thats whats wrong with the tipping society. Tips are not tips anymore. They are EXPECTED income. And people treat them as such and treat customers in such way.

How many times have waitresses not brought back your change or asked if you needed change? Very disrespectful if you ask me.

Dont start this up again, if clubowners were good enough to pay bartenders good money so that they wouldnt need tips, then maybe we wouldnt be so accustomed to it in our society. Also, bartenders have every right to decide who gets served and who doesnt. If someone gets into a car accident after drinking too many drinks at a bar I was serving at...I get sued. If they get sick from the alcohol I served them...I get sued. Establishment says whether or not they can stay within the premises, but as a bartender I have every right to say yes or no to serve a customer. 2000 people in a bar want a drink, not serving one guy isnt going to ruin the restaurants finances. But then again, this is the same reason I dont serve anymore, because I dont care to deal with people who wont tip and I dont care to steal money or act like an ass just for it. The system isnt good, but its the only way for MANAGEMENT cause they like to over everyone else for more money in their pocket.

Everyone complains to the bartenders and waitresses, but its not their fault. No one would bartend or waitress if you told them they would get 6.75 to 10 dollars an hour if you made them bartend at any busy restaurant or nightclub. Not worth the headaches.
