My Dragonfly experience (pg. 6)

There is no rule that says you have to tip a bartender or server in that matter. I work in the restaurent business and the tip is just a little extra for your work. And yeah its a very North American tradition, many places in Europe don't tip. Same deal at the bar, the bartender is payed to serve drinks, its his/hers job to serve costumers for the wage he gets payed ,tips are just a bonus thats why they keep them and normally don't get taxed on them. At our restaurant we have a guy who comes inn every week and drops about 700.00 a night but he doesn't tip, you think the management gives a if he tips or not ? maybe the server does but if the dude is sat in their section they still have to serve him, same deal is for the bar. If you really wanted you could complain and maybe even get a free beer out of it. I tip because I know working late nights its not fun, not because opening a fridge and beer is hard but because working while everyone else around is having fun is really .

Tip is the only control you as a customer have over the wait staff (other than your order of course) Frankly I love the tip, because

a) I give small amounts. who cares? they barely deserve it so small amounts add up. Its a courtesy
b) THE MOMENT THEY DO ONE THING THAT PISSES ME OFF, they get nothing nada, nil. And that ing burns them. ALOT.

I'd agree in general that tipping is half retarded, but no more retarted than thinking about how dfficult the actual task of bartending is, then explaining how that works with a tip. at that rate I should tip every construction worker, cause that is a hard job, and I wouldnt want to do it.

Fnally i think this is about the "scene" when you go out you put on a show....nice clothes, hair, shoes bla bla bla...and when you get to the club, you spend, retardedly....8 dollar beers (retarded) 11.50 REVS (retarded)....its part of going out.

its not gay, its courtesy.

Many bartenders make as much as lawyers do per hour or more!

Yea, I have some chick friends that work at Interwest at Blue Mountain at the bars there! ing insane! They'll make like 400$ a night sometimes! !

But the crowd of peps u have at Interwest is usually mostly city folk w/ money to burn, so its not surprising at all..

Now if u werent at one of our crummy bars in Collingwood... goodlucky making 100$ in tips a night! :whip: :haha:

And thats whats wrong with the tipping society. Tips are not tips anymore. They are EXPECTED income. And people treat them as such and treat customers in such way.

How many times have waitresses not brought back your change or asked if you needed change? Very disrespectful if you ask me.

I agree. I leave them and its nice to leave them, but if its "expected" of me.

And yea, if a ing waitres EVER keeps my damn change by default, It ANNOYS TEH out of me. Really turns me off. Happens all the time at Guv.

Its one of my only beefs I have w/ teh ing place.
GOd does wiatres that do that ever annoy me. I avoid them when i go back up like hte black plauge.

Or how about the ones that RAISE the cost of a drink. Happens in Guv alot too. Beers are 4.75 everwhere, but one bar, drinks are all of a sudden 5.25$.

SO she over charges you upfront, and still then doesnt give you all ur change back! :whip: :whip: Pisses me off.

Damn right. Me tipping has NOTHING to do w/ how hot the chick is. Im not gonna tip a chick simply bc shes hotter. Ill stare at a chick longer if shes ing hotter. :toothless

I tip any guys or girls the same, regadless. Dont think it matters (IMO).

Yea, no way. Maybe more like "if ur too cheap to tip, dont buy a drink"... but imply (even loosely) that u should really be staying home or chilling in the library (bc obviously ur not cool if u dont tip) thats ridiculous.

Most annyone thing ever .. and only have it happen at guv

One place is 5.25 ... ones 5.50 ... and ones 4.75 ... all for the same beer .. so gay
When they start jackin me up on the price i aint leavin no tip you ! .. but if they say the price that its supposed to be i always leave at least .50 cents a beer

just like jayx said originally though, it kills me how bartenders expect a tip for flipping a cap, but no one would ever think twice about tipping a fastfood employee who makes your whole meal. Personally i don't know how anyone other then teenagers looking for a bit of pocket change can work in those places.

Good Waitress = Good tip (if someone really goes out of their way for you, then i won't hesitate to give them a very good tip 15-20%)
Bad Waitress = Bad/no tip (experienced a lot at Mcmasters bar (quarters))

Good waitress in bar = no tip or the left over .25/50, or a little more if i keep going back to them
bad waitress in bar = give me the slightest bit of attitude and kiss any tip goodbye, if i give a $10 for a 4.75 drink, and they give me all change, them, i'll take my quarter back for trying to suck undeserving money out of the situation.

tipping should ultimately be earned, not expected

FYI Bartenders, like waiters and waitresses get lower hourley pay than the average retail worker b/c they are expected to make tips.

Anyway, I love Dragonfly!

and that law should be changed. To engrain tipping into our laws like that is very counterproductive
