My Dragonfly experience

I thought Id share my experience at Dragonfly last nite (Aug11). It was a normal night, no guest DJ

The Place:
Overall the place looked good, the ceiling kicked ass! The bathrooms were stunning! Last nite was their opening for their ladies night, so they had fresh flowers to put in girls hair (hot!), but on the downside, there was this girl walking over the place and on the dance floor dropping flowers petals... kinda nice you'd say, but the ******s kept stickin under your shoes....annoyin!

The Staff:
In this sense, I have mixed feelings about the staff. Bouncers were great, very friendly....but waiters....thats a different story.
Bought a corona, paid the guy, but left no tip(like im going to tip a dude!). Then later on, I went back to get another drink, and the douchebag was completely ignoring me, serving other customers that arrived after. Then 1 guy says to the waiter...this guy was there before me (me), and completely ignored it and served that dude....so i took my money and went to another bar and got a good lookin waitress!

The Music:
Overall, the DJ was mediocre, played rap and hip hop most of the night, and when it wasn't that , the music wasnt getting you to the dance floor. I felt Dragonfly was a fancy rumours (some lame bar in niagara falls attracting americans who only want to fight!). At 2AM, he started spinning some house, so I felt better for the time it lasted (he played till 3 am).
The sound wasn't as loud as expected( as said in the AVB thread). IMO it wasnt loud enough. The bass was too high, so the sound sounded distorted :( I hope they'll tune it for tiesto!!!

The crowd:
Quite a few hot ladies, but they were leaving quickly. It took a while to fill up the place (it was at its peak at 1AM). There were quite a bit of space to dance on the floor, perhaps a little too much! People were hanging to the bar too much, once u get ur drink, move away, others want drinks too! The best place to get drinks was the far end of the place

Money:
Cover was $10, Coronas $6, normal beers $5 and water $4 (WTF).

Overall impression:
I don't think I will be going back to dragonfly on a normal night. I will check it out only at events like tiesto, digweed and others to come. If the cover and drink prices were to go down a bit and the music to improve, then I might consider it.

i think tipping bartenders is a really stupid north american custom. Having said that. Why would you not tip the guy simply because hes a guy?

Isnt that sexist?

hahha im a guy, and i find tipping a guy waiter is gay.

on the other end, i rarely ever tip a waitress! im a cheap bastard !

ill tip on 1 out of 20 drinks....and it will be to a waitress that has been serving me for a while and has to be hot looking :D

its not gay, its courtesy.

But yeah tipping bartenders is by far the dumbest custom we have going. And its not a question of being cheap. Its a question of principles. Why do bartenders get a tip for opening your bottlecap but a mcdonalds worker gets $7.50 an hour to make a hundred hamburgers?

Many bartenders make as much as lawyers do per hour or more!

Thats what you get for not tipping. The bartender doesnt have to serve you at all if doesnt want to. Maybe next time you should consider tipping!

I dont get tipped for fixing issues at work, why should they get tipped to open a bottle..

I have a base salary, so do they!

If he doesnt want to serve me fine, there are 20 other servers ready to pop the bottle cap for me. in the end its the bar's business that is hurting, not me.

if everyone were going to the bar and not have a single drink and do E before going....do you think the bar would be profitable ?

i think the cover charge covered me for 10 tips! cuz my fun level didnt go high enough for a $5 cover!

no, the bartender does not have the right to decide who gets served and who does not. Thats up to the management. The bartender's job is to serve whomever wants a drink and in proper order of first come first serve.

And thats whats wrong with the tipping society. Tips are not tips anymore. They are EXPECTED income. And people treat them as such and treat customers in such way.

How many times have waitresses not brought back your change or asked if you needed change? Very disrespectful if you ask me.

there are many reasons for you not to get served, one of which is the right to refuse service. For once the customer is NOT right.
