so why dont u explain to us why tipping is necessary

I also took eco100 and it wasnt FUN and i dont recall anything about tipping in particular

ps. I think in canada all waiters/bartenders still get 7.50 minimum wage, not 2 bucks an hour like in America. If its 2 bucks an hour then haha yeah they deserve a tip

aww.. regardless of what was said.. I usually always tip at least $1-2 dollars its common courtesy, even if I didnt appreciate their service it shows I am still a good person and I am not going to stoop to their own level..

Like I said Cosmic Fur, if we got paid better like in Europe, then we wouldnt need tip, but since we dont, this is how it is, deal with it. No one in their right mind would work at 6.85 an hour to serve people food and drinks all day and feel respectable in the morning. Which is why I think all fast food career people should just hang themselves right now and rid themselves of a lifetime of misery.

And doesn't happen practically at all in europe, and somehow they survive.

My friend in Europe gets paid $13 an hour and the tips there are around $1-5 for being a waiter. Thats how he survives. I can't eat on $2 an hour, so I need the tips that I recieve.

Again, though, I do a lot more as a waitress than a bartender, and think the tips should equate to the services rendered.

I think everyone was trying to explain to you why the guy ignored you...quite frankly, thats ing funny. How long did he make you stand at the bar waiting for him to serve you?

i was standing there alone for 1-2 mins, lookin at him so he approach me and ask what i wanted....then 2 girls arrived...he served them....them another guy came after and got served...then i waited some more and said it, someone else will serve me

in the end its no big deal...i tipped the girl that served me that drink!

pat's just bitter cause he got whipped on stage at seductions down the street before heading to dragonfly and then took it out on the bartenders.

teehee (:

there are many reasons for you not to get served, one of which is the right to refuse service. For once the customer is NOT right.

management has that right... not the staff itself.

And it's not a "North American" tradition

it is...ive never been to any other country than the US or Canada where tipping a bartender was a customary practice. The only exceptions being bars in southern locales catered to north americans who are on packaged holidays. Tipping is not customary in those countries among each other but they sure milk it when it comes to us!

the "North American" tradition is to keep whining about EVERYTHING [/QUOTE]

agreed... and this is my one of very few whines

(i generally tend to complain about complainers)

Dont start this up again, if clubowners were good enough to pay bartenders good money so that they wouldnt need tips, then maybe we wouldnt be so accustomed to it in our society. Also, bartenders have every right to decide who gets served and who doesnt. If someone gets into a car accident after drinking too many drinks at a bar I was serving at...I get sued. If they get sick from the alcohol I served them...I get sued.

Is it not your job to notify management when somebody has had too much? RIght of refusal of service ALWAYS has to have backing of management. If you refuse to serve a patron who is drunk, then you should be kicking that person out. And i doubt the doormen or management would comply simply because hes a lousey tipper.

Everyone complains to the bartenders and waitresses, but its not their fault. No one would bartend or waitress if you told them they would get 6.75 to 10 dollars an hour if you made them bartend at any busy restaurant or nightclub. Not worth the headaches.

the system is crap i agree. The tip out system and low wages are a problem. AND THIS IS WHY I DO TIP EVEN THOUGH I DONT AGREE WITH IT.

This is also why they need to increase cover marginally, pay the staff around $15 an hour and allow people to tip casually if they want to. And im willing to bet there are a million people who would bartend for $15 (or less) plus tips.
