Ya, I know, but that even makes him look further like a dumbass. He comes from Detroit, he would have had to come across the notion Detroit Techno, even if he only heard it once. Then he calls Moby's music techno, which basicallyt explains the attitude that most Americans have of Electronic music.
I do agree with the argument that America is afraid of any foriegn influence. The music we market is American, some British, but that's because it's in English. , even Latin artists have to make English albums to sell here. Foriegn sports, nope. Foriegn languages:stongue: The only people who speak forign languages fluently here learned it as their first language, or learned it along with english (I'm talking abou the majority, don't get offended). We have American versions of movies and TV shows because, God forbid, a foriegn TV show could influence the American way of life. Thank capatalism and the American mindset for this. Big buisness=Big government. It's just a transfer of control. |

it's sort of like why americans don't want to make reliable cars. all about the money
15 years ago was a whole other story. hip hop was thriving in talent and everyone realized how much of a cash cow it really can be... and voila... now everyone and their mother produces hip hop and is considered a filthy rich rap superstar |

It's called CLEARCHANNEL!
The industry has become so demanding of high financial returns that they are not willing to take the risks to bring in new genres.
They will not take on a new style of music unless there's already a buzz.
The disco era is also to blame. It went mainstream and then crashed and burned and became hated by everyone. |

Personally, I am very glad that EDM hasn't gone completely mainstream.....though it is not as it was in the past, I love the fact that it is an underground movement.....I don't want everybody and his brother listening to this music the way every kid these days worships 50 Cent for instance....Nah, but seriously, I feel special being apart of something that is somewhat private, it tells me that only those who really love the music and the scene will be involved in it....and even though it may be a very difficult genre for DJs and producers to get exposure in, there is no question that EDM DJs and producers are making fortunes and are very successful....I absolutely love going to a live event knowing that every person who is in attendance is there for the music, knows the music very well, and would rather not be anywhere else. Though I am quite new to it all, I feel like we are all apart of a very strong community that continues to survive and remain strong b/c we are a close-knit group and we're connected to something that is underground: the music survives b/c we, the supporters, continue to love it whole-heartedly. I, personally, do not want to see it become commercialized.
Just my 2 cents.
Anyone else feel like I do?

I find it hard to beleive your program director would yank you, even when you "won the time bracket"... Companies rely heavily on ratings and research when they program their hours....
As to why EDM isn't promoted in media... its the same reason heavy metal isn't. Because the numbers just aren't there... there aren't enough people who listen to it, when compared to genres like pop and hip hop. Thats why you have CHR (Chart hits radio) stations that make loads of money (like Capitol in London)...
MTV on the other hand (when they do play music, or on channels like MTV2 / VH1) rely very heavily on research and market trends- obvious from album/single sales... their main aim is to be the #1 Music channel, and in most of the world, they succeed... in some places by even eliminating music from a large part of their programming (like in the states).
So when there is a "crossover" hit like Robert Miles - Children... it'll get heavy airplay around the world... Otherwise they'll play 50 cent. Why? Because at one point in time he had FOUR tunes in the top 10.
EDM doesn't do itself any favours by having artists produce some of the worst videos i've ever seen... Anyone remember "Shiny Disco Balls"?
In any event, I'm happy with where EDM is... even in India where 99% of our EDM comes from the net and its impossible to find a good CD, or a night where you can go out and listen to decent tunes. I like being on the fringe, being underground... not clubbed in the same lame category as the local pop. |

| I DJ'd a birthday party last night, and whenever I played a song that was along the same lines of typical hits like Funky Town or Heaven, everyone left the floor. It's all of a question of what the people know. If they don't know a song, they won't dance to it. For this I despise the country I reside in. |
