Not really. One of the worst implies near the top of the list, and since he stipulated america only, we're picking from a relatively short time frame. Here are some of the worst American tragedies I can think of:
1. Civil War
2. Trail of Tears and the other manifest destiny results
2. Pearl Harbour (& world war 2)
3. War of 1812
4. Black Friday
5. Hanson's first album, Middle of Nowhere, released
6. Revolutionary war (incl. the initial slave trade and colonization)
7. Any number of presidential assasinations
8. The development of regular political lobbying
You're saying 9/11 doesnt belong on that list? |

I'm going to have to agree with this wholeheartedly. It really does show how privileged we are to have the sort of technology, medicine, security, police/military capabilities, etc. that we have in the US. The fact is, that while this is a tragedy, compared to the things that go on in this world, we're quite fortunate.
I think that the reason we place a higher value on American lives is, in part, because it's so much harder to lose your life here than it is in less privileged countries. |

| As much as I think the 9/11 happenings were horrible, and incredibly sad, I think it has been sensationalized a little too much, and people are making a much bigger deal over it than it really needs or deserves. |

Indeed. It's become a sort of national holiday now. Funny how much effect media exposure has on people. |

It has become a day of memorial such as the other tragedies like Oklahoma City Bombing. It's only natural when you lose so many lives for the media to act that way.
I don't think it's over exposure. This isn't a movie. Lots of lives were lost.

I agree with your last statement, but the incident is still fresh enough in everyone's minds to warrant some kind of memorial. Surely, it's beefed up a little this year (don't forget elections are in a couple months), but to say that the date deserves no recognition or rememberance is a little callous. Of course, this applies only to Americans...I dont expect other country's residents to care or even know much about 9/11 |

In the idea that there should be a memorial or other gathering to remember the lost, yes, it should be the responsibility of the residents of the affected country to handle the arrangements and ceremony |

Big difference.
1. September 11th victoms died at WORK not during a war with no warning of the attacks.
2. The civilians who died in Iraq died in a war zone with plenty of warnings.
I am not undermining ANY civilian casualties in either event...all i am saying is that there is a huge difference between the 2. |
