Apologies, I should have made that a bit clearer.

What are you talking about?

The only way I'm answering that is if you give me your definition of what the word Trance means.

The musical style has evolved quite a bit over the years. To properly (attempt to) define it now would be too much typing.

Also, my beer would get warm.

If you were refering to the mental state [in a trance], it would be of course be purely subjective to the 'trancee.'

Not going there either.

Beer. Warming.

No.

The definition of the genre may change over time, just like it always has, but the genre will never really die. I've been reading threads that ask this question for the 4 years I've been a member here. It's really not going anywhere...just changing along with every other genre.

Agreed. The genre itself won't die, merely it's popularity.

Many top artists have abandoned trance in favor of house/electro type stuff. Even Ian Van Dahl, with there singles "Movin On" and "Just a Girl", which are totally house and not trance at all. It seems whoever said it was right. Trance is dead, Ferry Corsten killed it(he too is abandoning trance).

Yes, yes it is.

Now go for a smoke...

To answer the topic subject... Yes.

I think just like many other styles of music, they come and go. I think right now trance just isn't as popular as it once was, in 1999 and 2000 or even 2003 or 2004. Our tastes change as well. I can tell you that around 2000 and 2001 I was actually more into progressive house, and then around 2002 I was mostly into melodic, epic trance. Last year, my tastes started to change, and although I was still into trance, I was getting more and more into progressive, because there were a lot more melodic progressive tracks being released that I liked.

So maybe in another few years trance will be what it was, but I just think it's slowing down in popularity and the number of releases of trance from all of the guys we liked back in the late 90s, early 00s...just aren't releasing as much. But in another few years, we might have some fresh new talent and perhaps some of these guys that we liked will produce some more stuff before they retire from making trance music.

Perhaps trance will become more of an arty, sound-track, CGI film type music instead of being mostly a club/festival music that it's been. So you might start hearing trance (or a more evolved type) in other areas. Perhaps there will be more of a "live" element to it or a more organic sound...more live instruments or truly organic sounding synths. Perhaps there will be more "downtempo-trance", stuff that is melodic and hypnotic but at a slower tempo. I mean think BT's new CD "This Binary Universe", something similar to that...and this is what I can see it going in. It will appeal to people who aren't just a part of the club scene...
