Some promising routes that may eventually become trance, if they aren't already:
Andy Cato - La Luna [Azuli Silver]
Ame - Rej [Innervisions] (yeah, I know everyone knows it, but think of the possibilities for exploitation inspiration) |

Not dead. At any given time 24/7 just go to di.fm (biggest edm online radio) and see who's listening... just for the hell of it i just checked 7,178 total listeners right now (vocal & trance chanel) compared to 1,429 on the house chanel :haha: and 740 on the progg chanel :haha: and theres not even any dj sets on the trance chanels right now.. just random tracks, yeah trance is dead..
And if you wanna talk about popularity just check who's on top of the votes. |

You just did talk about popularity. Number of radio listeners doesn't mean a genre has any creative life. And you'll probably find that internationally house outsells trance by a considerable margin and has for several years.
Americans shouldn't be allowed to talk about popularity of dance music unless they've been abroad and seen for themselves. |

Many top artists have abandoned trance in favor of house/electro type stuff. Even Ian Van Dahl, with there singles "Movin On" and "Just a Girl", which are totally house and not trance at all. It seems whoever said it was right. Trance is dead, Ferry Corsten killed it(he too is abandoning trance). |

its this point that confuses the whole thing. theres too much pop-dance labeled as trance and tied up with various types of edm so when a comercial change happens and the labels start focusing on electro house ie: the citroen tune then people immediately think trance is dead but as far as i know its been "on its death bed" for the last 6 years but remains popular as ever.
theres too much pop-dance that gets labeled as trance and thats the oproblem the genre has had for years since the quality records get pushed together and tarnished by records like ian van dahl etc
at the end of the day though, just cos someone writes on an internet forum or in a magazine that the scene is dead(most probably because they dont like that style of music), it doesnt mean it is dead and from what i see trance is still a popular genre regardless of the fact "cool" clubs prefer electro and funky house to appeal to the former "RnB" cliantel with their prada and champagne |

Good post, unlike the one above it, it makes sense. |

Save me the bull. Almost every American I know will readily admit their country is not exactly the most acceptant place for dance music. How the hell do you know how popular something is when the scene is relatively small in your country?
The popularity argument is wrong. Anyone who lives in a country where dance music sells will attest this. Your wounded pride that I called your ignorance up changes nothing.
Besides, this isn't about popularity. |

True...when they're playing just random tracks, its hideous crap, and mostly dated stuff too. I only listen to the bi weekly and monthly radio shows like Blank & Jones, Thomas bronzwaer etc to hear real stuff and new unreleased productions. |

You don't get what the post was meant to say. The vocal channel doesn't really play pure trance, but rather a smattering of pop tunes from across the board. Your post proves nothing about the popularity of trance.
And as System J has been saying, this thread isn't about popularity. Ultimately, the majority of that popular music that you're touting is creatively vapid and unoriginal. The death of trance doesn't come when it stops being creative.
Fortunately for trance, there are still creative acts out there. But like always, you just have to dig for them. |
