being in good overall shape requires both. you cannot be in good muscular shape without some form of exercise.

L-carnitine ?

L-carnitine is very similar to the nonessential amino acid carnitine. It performs some of the same functions, such as helping metabolize food into energy.L-carnitine transfers long-chain fatty acids, such as triglycerides into mitochondria (a cell's energy powerhouse), where they may be oxidized to produce energy. L-carnitine is a very popular supplement that promotes growth and development. It is also used for fat-burning, increasing energy, and improving resistance to muscle fatigue. L-carnitine has also been shown to help build muscle. is also great in dieting, as it reduces feelings of hunger and weakness.

You cat try if it is ok for your stomach. I don't have any problem till now. I take it for a peroids of two weeks like 45 min before workout. You can buy it from some good sports store or somre reliable supermarket . As for proteins I drink a lot of milk and eat a lot of yogurt, I use the later more as a diet food.

Alright, I only have free hand weights at the moment, and I would really like to strengthen my back and work on my love handles and butt.

Can anyone give me tips on what are good excercises for these?

EDIT: I tried to change the thread title, and it wouldn't let me :(

EDIT EDIT: Also, any tips on how to work out the triceps well so I can get rid of the looser skin there.

Squats rock for your butt. I don't bother too much with cardio and concentrate more on weights. Just get a few freeweights at home and learn how to do squats across your house when you don't want to go to the gym. Do your abs exercises too. I also do this exercise where I hold weights in my hand and climb up a few steps while holding weights.

trying to get rid of fat from a specific area is called Spot Training and it's impossible. If you want to lose fat around your butt, triceps and love handles you need to do fat burning exercises such as walking on a incline and, if possible, increase your lean muscle mass.

Good things for getting your butt muscles bigger or at least a bit more defined are exercises such as hack squats and walking lunges.

We need Sugardevil in here!!! >:O She is all-knowing when it comes to women's fitness.

Anyway, the point is you can't target specific areas of fat, you have to lean down by modifying your diet and doing more cardio :*(

Well I am definitely not lacking in cardio; I am working cardio more than anything right now. However, I am looking to strengthen these areas, and I know that requires specific excercises.

Walking lunges :D I will do those for sure.

very true, if your goal is to strengthen certain areas then you will need to stress your muscles into growth. Getting rid of love handles, though, simply requires lowering your overall fat percentage.

Also, cardio such as running and bicycling are not very good at burning fat. A sustained heart rate of 115-125 at your age is ideal for burning fat without sacrificing muscle. You should stay within that range for over 40 minutes. You will begin to rid yourself of subcutaneous fat which will give you the definition you desire so long as your diet is balanced (complex carbs, good fats and good protein)
