bah except for "take me away." i'm so sick of that cheesy ass track. thank god they didn't bust out with the one with the vocals at least. only the purple haze remix gets kudos from me!
negativity aside, this was a purely AMAZING night! i've never ever seen monster massive so packed. or the la sports arena so packed. it was beyond words. sooo much fun!!!! wooow!
i checked out the house room towards the end of the night. more of an intimate vibe out there, it was nice. a generally friendlier atmosphere, i'll definitely spend some more time out there next time. but dammit, i do love my hands-in-the-air trance ;). |

PvD mixed it the best and everyone went crazy when he dropped it, he only played half of it and mixed Beats@rank1dotcom into the track seamlessly... i think. |

Curly's Monster Massive Review.....
My goddamn boss wouldnt let me out of work at 6 like my approved leave request stated...I didnt roll outta work til just past 630pm. I still had to go home and get my . I then went and picked up my girlfriend in Camarillo and waited for her to get ready.
I then met up with Mando (Euphoric Senses) and his girlfriend in Universal City to pick up a friend named Ahmed. Our friend wasn't even at his house yet and still had to get ready at his house. We waited for a little while outside of McDonalds waiting for him to get back to his house. I finally called and talked to him on the phone and told him that we were going to bounce and take off with out him cuz he was lagging.....it was almost 9pm by this point and we wanted to rush to the LA Sports Arena to catch the beginning of Markus Schulz's set.
So we have to backtrack up the 101 and then back down the 405 > 10 > 110 and like 1 mile before the exit to the venue traffic started backing up. That was hardly moving. 1 hour went by.........2 hours went by.....then 3 in hours! We moved inch by inch and we were less than a 1/4 mile away from the mothain exit. It was soon just after midnight. It was a in nightmare. Tons of cars were cutting in front. This totally killed my excitement for the party.
We finally exit the freeway and then have to wait at the light so we can begin travelling the jungle that is the city streets. At the intersection while waiting I rolled down my window because I wanted some fresh air. A few seconds later I hear someone yell out "CURLY!!" I look to my left and it was my friend that we ditched earlier in Universal City. How the did his ass catch back up to us?????? He must have been one of them suckers cutting in front of all the other cars near the exit.
We then had to wait in another line just to get into the parking lot which was a million miles away from the venue.
Luckily we were able to get in right away to the party thanks to the speedy line at the groovetickets will call table. Security was a breeze. We were in!
We walked down the ramp to the house area....it was megapacked!!! WTF. No room to move/dance/stand/breathe. I was stoked to hear the dj out there play Nick & Danny Chatelain - Is Killing Me. Pimp track. We made our way into the main room to see the rest of Judge Jules' set.
Judge Jules was all over the damn place. Electro > Techno > Tribal > Trance and back again in random ass order. I didn't like that As the Rush Comes mashup at all. And he was playing Mason - Exceeder at like 140bpm it seemed. Sounded gross. There were some good tracks here and there.
My girlfriend and I went to the back to grab a beer. The vendors were in mean and very unprofessional. I wanted to drop kick each and every one of them. Shortly after I got my beer...I turned and just then some chick tripped over my foot and slid in a puddle of liquid and was completely horizontal in the air about 3 feet up before breaking her fall with her HEAD!!!!! She was completely knocked out and I got this disgusting feeling in my stomach because I swore she was dead. She hit so hard that I could hear the sound of her head hitting the ground over the music. 5 minutes passed and she finally came to. I was almost a murderer. And I only have size 10.5 feet...how does someone trip over that? LOL.
Overall, I thought Judge Jules did pretty well. Then PVD came on and definitely impressed me. I've never seen him interact with the crowd so much before. He was jumping up and down and smiling and pumping his fists in the air. This is a new PVD.....it was as if it was Tiesto up there. Those were definitely Tiesto antics. Clone! LOL. PVD threw it down for sure. He played so many great tracks. Some were boring. It was interesting to hear Ableton being used creatively in a trance set. This set was a million times better than his set at the Mayan the last time I saw PVD.
I didnt like the overall vibe at Monster Massive. The production sucked. They could have had better visuals and lighting. There were no go go dancers at all during PVd's set. I was annoyed with PVD playing a bunch of hte same tracks as Judge Jules did earlier. I am sad I missed Armin and Markus. I am sure they played a bunch of tracks the Judge and PVD played. I hated the in traffic gettin to the event. It was too in packed in there.
I crashed out in Long Beach after the party.....no after parties for me. I wish I would have gone to the Sub Level party where Dennis Ferrer and Doc Martin were playing.
I think this event confirmed that trance has pretty much died in me. I mean there are songs here and there that rock my socks...but I just dont feel sets as much as I used to anymore. I can now say that House > Trance. Unfortunately I was not able to check out the house room outside at all cuz we were stuck in the main room. This may be my last massive. I should have gotten VIP.
My girl looked in sexy as tho so during the party I didnt give a about all the negatives. Hehe.
The only TA I saw was Woody but we didnt get a chance to talk. |
