You do have a good point here, on a personal level it is hard for us here on a message board to discuss what could potentially insult a particular person more or less, that is true with anyone, and is the reason why certain people may get particularly upset when being called "fat" or "alcoholic" when others do not.

So on a personal level it seems as though an insult could be just as bad as any other, however as far as from a societal perspective I am still standing firmly with the N word carrying more weight than not just cracker but the vast majority of other insults.

You are telling me that if a white person went downtown Detroit and went to a predominantly black neighbourhood and went into a bar that was all black people that they wouldnt be look at, and given ? I highly doubt it.
======================================================================
I was trying to just show that there is in fact a double standard in the society.

.

Here it seems like you're missing my point, if you go back to my original post I state clearly that I do believe there is a double standard and that is not a good thing. I never argued against that existing or that a white person would not be in an uncomfortable situation were he to find himself being the object of racial slurs in innercity detroit. My argument was in response to specific things said throughout the beginning of this thread, and was predominently about the weight of the words used.

oh sorry i didnt mean that as an argument towards you. I did see that u talked about the double standard..

i was just adding my opinion as well :D

Also, for me personally if i was called a cracker it would be quite comical if anything. To me its a poor attempt at an insult.

Pretty much my point is that:
1. Yes there is racism and it has to be addressed
2. There is a double standard and im tired of it
3. Due to reason 2 above its hard for people to always feel for the other side, even if they do acknowledge and know what was done was wrong.

i can't believe you're actually bitching about this, you're from some different reality, or you live in a box. if black people find it offensive for others to use the word then take it from them and don't use it

after 300 years of slavery i figure they got 300 years of publicly making white jokes.... oh then it might be even. and in the meanwhile u can cry about the word cracker

Dont even start with the numbers

If we're gonna use history lets go WAAAY back

How bout Greek slaves? How bout Persian slaves? How about Egyptian slaves?

This whole past issue doesnt hold up anymore. It happened and hating people today because of it makes no sense. THE WHITE MAN of today didnt do those things... the ancestors did. So please lets stick in the present!

LOL. u're joking right?

ask a greek how he feels about his slavery plight. then ask an egyptian. for one i lived there for 3 years.

then ask a black man.

YOU NEED A REALITY CHECK

and to say the not so distant past doesn't affect the present is among the most wishful coments somebody could possibly utter

By always sticking and talking about the past will not get us any closer to resloving the issue of equality! The past will only bring memories of hate, and that will help us in NO WAY!
I am not saying FORGET the past...just saying not to bring it up and hope to fix something by doing so!

AND what are you talkin about i need a reality check..plz do explain!

ok, we'll break this one down for you

1. go ask an egyptian and/or a greek how he feels about his slavery plight

2. then go ask a black man

3. better yet go to a group of black people and casually use the n-bomb, then come back and start a thread on your experiences, i'd love to read it. that's your reality check

the point you're missing is these things will all heal in time, but it takes time and lots of it. 300 years of slavery isn't wiped away because one generation (yours you keep talking about) didn't do it. and to tell a people who just became comfortable using the n-bomb within themselves that they should hurry up and let us all use the word for the sake of equality shows a massive lack in patience. and ignorance.
actually say what you're writing OUT LOUD. "daddy why can the black man call me a cracker, but i can't call him a n****?" you sound like a kid

First of all lets keep this as a discussion and not start personal attacks...

Second..

I understand everything ur saying, and i am agreeing to an extent!

Go to a group of black guys and drop the N bomb and ill get a reality check? NO ! You talk as if i am unaware of this.

I was not saying we should use the word or to forget the past, u are missunderstanding.

All i was saying is that, we should not use the past as an argument of hatred for today. We need to remember it. But we also need to move on!

And also.. I dont need to say that out loud. I know why it is. Again i was saying there is a double standard. Weather or not ni**er has more history than cracker, it shouldnt matter when it comes to double standard.

You are saying oh they were slaves so now its ok to have a double standard? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Doing this will never resolve anything!
