You seemed to be suggesting that, because you'd never of them, they actually weren't world famous at all. Which is obviously a crock.

If I haven't heard of someone they aren't famous, at least they aren't famous for me, which is what matters, to me.

Probaly tiesto is indeed Holland's most famous individual. Millions of people have seen the olypmics and know about "dj-tiesto". Only a minority of these millions are into football.

Even more people saw the World Cup and saw the Dutch team spend somewhat more time on the screen than Tiesto did at the Olympics. A billion people regularly watch the Premiership and Spanish leagues. Over a billion people tuned into the Champion's League final, which featured a couple of Dutch players.

And what kind of complete bull is "a minority of these millions are into football"? Football is the most popular sport on the planet. I can quite safely say that a larger percentage of the TV audience for the Olympics care about football than they do about some Dutch guy who appeared for a bit in the opening ceremony. The figures speak for themselves.

Unfortunately, there is a dictionary definition for "famous" and it doesn't really give a about what matters to you.

Let's put it like this. Until September, Ruud Van Nistelrooy was an integral player for English Premiership football club Manchester United, who are the most supported club in the world. For five years he was one of the most famous players in the Premiership, a league regularly followed by an international audience of a billion people, the most watched sporting league in the world. He also featured for Holland in the last two World Cups, also watched by immense global audiences exceeding every other sporting event. The World Cup has audiences two to three times the size of those who tune into the Summer Olympics.

Who you and your neighbours know of is immaterial.

pwned in every sense of the word.

Yes but i bet more women know about tiesto then some dutch super-star football player and the main reason for this was probably the olympics opening ceremony. So,statistically speaking, If you account for the female population as well, i'll bet that Tiesto will appear over these super-star foot-ball players.

Yeah, because it's not as if women ever watch sports, is it?

And if we set aside political correctness for a moment, I used to know a girl who tuned into Man United matches just to see Van Nistelrooy.

Did I mention he now plays for Real Madrid, a team full of other unknowns like David Beckham, Ronaldo and, until recently, Zidane. Who the , eh? Some ten second appearance in a gigantic cultural dick-measuring competition is much more likely to be registered.
