so clovis and i were just briefly discussing "true love", and i've come to the conclusion that no matter who you end up with, you are still making sacrifices (about things u want in a partner) and need to prioritize your needs.
what do u need most? trust? someone you can depend on? some who intellectually stimulates you like no other person can (yet they keep you on your toes a lot, which, to me, is NOT true love)?
am i just being a pessimist about love?
i really think that true love is about prioritizing your needs and meeting them...

No one is ever going to match up up 100% thats why you are absolutely right you have to prioritize your needs. I definetly think i could have stuck it out a little more in my previous relationship and now I'm guessing myself because i think i got out of it for the wrong reasons. For the record being single=overrated. Nothing compares to the feeling you have with that special person. Not all the ass in the world from the finest girls could come even close to knowing that you are with the right person. |

You undersell yourself sir, its rambling, out of control emo nonsense!
Personally I'm only responsible for myself, lowered expectations are easier to live with as a whole when it comes to other people. :stongue: |

I think while it's useful to think about what you want and sort it out in your head, ultimately the decision is not an intellectual one. Love just happens it's something you feel, not like a decision you make based on some formula.
Although falling in love with someone doesn't mean ou're blind to their faults... You just don't really care about them because you're in love with the person. Sometimes the persons flaws are part of what makes them attractive. |

I like this monologue from The Beach:
"When you develop an infatuation for someone you always find a reason to believe that this is exactly the person for you. It doesn't need to be a good reason. Taking photographs of the night sky, for example. Now, in the long run, that's just the kind of dumb, irritating habit that would cause you to split up. But in the haze of infatuation, it's just what you've been searching for all these years." |

It's funny to me when people bitch and moan about the downs of love. Just like anything worth having in life, it isn't supposed to be easy. I don't think it's a coincidence that the people who are often the most unhappy are the ones who were too cowardly to stick it out through the rough times.

The only real downer is when your heart is hopelessly in love with someone who just doesn't appreciate you, doesn't understand and/or give a about the concept of compromise, and is content with treating you like an expendable piece of .
Sometimes the heart just doesn't know what's good for it. |
