A huge problem is trust, so many people lie and cheat, again being glorified, and its been made easier threw text messaging and the internet. People can lie easier when its not face to face. It is also easier to sneak around through these new technoligies as well.
When theres no trust you have nothing!
Who really trusts anyone these days?
Thats the real sad part. |

While I agree more or less to the comments made by RJ regarding infidelity, I have a much more liberal view of this I think.
Is it really reasonable to expect someone to be forever attracted to one person only and never think or wonder about other possibilities? Is that even natural for humans? Besides, people do make mistakes...and while I've never cheated, or been cheated on (and I'm sure it'd hurt), I don't think that is should be labeled as "unacceptable" per se. |

Well, one thing to think, even fantasize about a hot guy/girl, another to act on it.
Humans can't help to be attracted to other humans.
Look, but don't touch rule...
I should expect that in a stable, loving relationship, a couple should feel comfortable discussing this sort of thing, like commenting whether some celeb is hot or not. If not, then there is an insecurity problem somewhere. |

Of course its unacceptable!!!!!! You have to control urges, and dont forget its an urge. So is true love only for the strong at heart? People make mistakes by dropping a bottle of milk on the floor, not throwing their dicks into another hole or spreadingthe legs accidently. Gimmie a break. If you hold love in true and high regard youhave the RESPECT for the other person not to cheat and stay true to them, they have been there for you and only you, you shold show them the same back.
No offence but that was about the dumbest thing I have ever heard, labelling cheating as acceptable. geesh......
Thast the last time I vote liberal. |

Totally missed the point there... I was simply asking if the people on this board thought that it was the shape of things to come. Don't we need to partner up anymore? I know I certainly don't but there is still a big part of me that finds that sad. Very sad. |
You should, no offence at all. Depends on the person I like the companionship however I am finding it more and more less likely to ever find true love. I believe that a GOOD partner helps you grow helps support you no matter what and knowing someone cares about you just as much as you care for them. |

Yes it is reasonable.
Most importantly it is about finding the right person and having both people in a relationship actively involved (i.e. relationship progression).
But more in relation to how I think you're approaching it:
It's about choice and intention. If you make the choice ( a) that it is possible, b) that your partner is that person, c) all other possibilities are negligible) and have the intention (to forever love and be attracted to that partner) than it is reasonable, possible and probable.
Some people don't want to make the choice and even more certainly don't display the intention. For them I guess it isn't reasonable - but that is why humans have the free will to choose. |

Ah...yes I completely agree with the choice theory.
But I don't agree with Urban's absolute uncompromising standing on this. Besides I find it hard to believe that if a girl you found extremely attractive jumped on you naked (who knows could happen), you'd be able to control your urges...and I still think people do make mistakes - it's how they deal with the consequences that makes all the difference.
And yes, communication is key. |

I don't want to believe it either but its true, being a hopeless romantic myself I can see s huge difference in the way love is veiwed now adays and with us all being exposed to things like porn, the internet, music videos and such it has definatly faslified what sex shoudl mean and I think has tarnished what a relationship means. Usually sex is something you leave to do with someone you care about and you feel a special bond by sharing that, now adays its just sex all over anywhere with everyone. Society has o\almost made it seem ok to cheat, have multiple partners at one time, have one night stands and have made people think its the normal by telling stories through these outlets of tv and the net. There are more stories about sex and origies and cheating and such now than a real good love story of two people just loving each other for who they are not what they do or how they look.
The way people precieve love in this day in age really does make me sick to my stomach. |
Sex has always been prevalent in society, ever since Ogog found Moogmoog pretty damn hot for a cavegirl.
Puberty and sexual impulses didn't change much. So, people had casual and marital sex. Not uncommon for girls to be married by 15 and start having kids right away. Hookers still got a lot of business. Whoever could maintain a concubine overseas did so. For examples.
We like fairy tales in general, hence why we still buy our kids those books and videos. Part of us have this fantasy of a shining white knight coming to rescue a damsel in distress or something. (Oh, is that why I'm holding out for so long? Finding a damsel in distress?)
Hence why romantic stories still makes girls feel all gooshy inside and guys put up a manly front and say that's all BS but inside, they like those stories too. (Hence why I sat through Tristan and Isolde...)
Keep in mind that second most prevalent theme in commercials after sex is family. To find a girl/guy that you truly love and raise a family. Yep. That's a powerful image.
I don't know exactly why being single in old age happens often. (Not that I'm advocating marriage) I'm guessing it has to do something with a person having a busy job both guys and girls and often don't have time to raise a family.
And the fact that people get married too fast with the 'wrong' person and divorce few years later.
This leads to a bit of disillusionment to a lot of people who sees this kind of stuff and don't want to put up with stress from relationships when life is already too busy.
But I still think most of us want to find someone not just for sex, but someone to hold us when we're having tough days with a caring hug and tell us that tomorrow will be better, because the feeling of being alone is perhaps the worst feeling in the world.
Right. That was a rambling that made no sense at all :p

I can't speak for everyone else, but for me, assuming that I'm not ed out of my skull and still have some reasoning capability, I should, and I must, say no.
It is a matter of personal discipline and integrity. You know what you're doing is wrong according to your belief and morals, so you don't do it, no matter how bad the temptation is.
Yes, people make mistakes. But you're stupid if you know the consequences, but you do them anyways. I don't think you'll learn from a mistake that you already know the consequences to.
If I was in a relationship and some hot girl jumps on me, I'd think what me ing this girl would do to my S.O and that alone would put me off to say no. |

None taken but read carefully what I wrote.... I said, "I certainly don't [need to partner up]".
I didn't say I didn't want to.
On the contrary, I would love to be swept off my feet and then spend the rest of my life building a solid relationship with bricks of love, laughter, support, care, wicked sex, tears, knowledge, experience, comfort, drama, friendship, debate, reliance, personal growth and so much more but it is seemingly unattainable for many of the reasons in this thread.
As for rj's choice theory, that is why I stay single... because I would only be in a relationship with someone that I had those intentions (to forever love and be attracted to that partner) with and trust me, I think that person is nothing short of a fairytale.
