So in other words, you would rather have the taliban in power and back to thier old repressive rule?? And if American lives are lost then its an added bonus??
What a great addition to the Canadian Populace you have been. |

No. If Americans want to fight the war, they can for two reasons: a) noone can stop them, b) its not our business or interests. But as long as we dont become part of the problem, suffering, losing our troops, getting humiliated and criticized by Muslims. And what are we gaining? President Bush jokingly mocking us, tapping on the shoulder, good job little guy? Enough politics. We provide America with enough. We are their largest trade partners, we somewhat support USA, but we shouldn't be fighting their wars, risking our own security, stability and wasting money. Let Americans die for their own mistakes instead. We need our Canadian men and women here at home to live happy and productive lives, contribute to our way of life and society. And we shouldn't worry about terrorist attacks then either if we dont stick our noses where we dont belong like USA does all the time. I want to be able to travel around the world as a Canuck without the American shadow on my shoulder and criticism that we are slaving on America's empirical aspirations. Enough. |

Or are you just really a short-term thinker? |
Dead on target.
Yeah, in short term Afghanistan is in holes right now. Corruption in govt. Afghan National Police might as well be Taliban. Drug trade going nuts.
But schools are being built. Hospitals opening. Roads allowing traffic to go places in Afghanistan.
I don't see Afghanistan reaching any sort of level of self sustainment for at least 25 yrs. Why? Because they are in so much that it'll take years for the Karzai govt to get a firm footing and start fixing their own problems.
For example, South Korea was also a war torn country with very little economy, natural resources ruled by virtual dictators. Not until 1992 someone not a general became a president. Now South Korea is pretty wealthy. From end of Korean War in 1953 to 1992, that's what, almost 40 yrs.
Yeah, the Yanks went to Afghanistan to chase AQ and beat the crap out of Taliban. But it has stopped being about those guys. It's now about giving the Afghans a chance for a better life.
Or do you left wingers believe that human rights, good quality of life, basic education, etc are only for Western nations? |

Wow your Post reminds me of ........| quote: | "My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour.
I believe it is peace for our time...

How about getting the Taliban to pay for compensation? You know, because they're the ones using suicide bombers and fighting in civilian homes causing civilian casualties.
As for the rest of the article, I love it when left wingers with no clue blatter about what should be done when they have no clue what the situation in Afghanistan is like.
You can tackle only one problem at a time. Yeah, the warlords needs to go. But the Taliban is the bigger threat right now. When they are gone, the warlords will be next.
As for the poppy production, if you're an Afghan farmer who can make one dollar per day doing some manual labour, but can get five dollars per day farming poppies, what would you do?
The Karzai govt and NATO (plus Aussies and whoever is in it for the ride) should be focusing on providing alternative means for economy.
If you just go in and burn down the poppy fields without giving those farmers an alternative and about profitable income, you'll only cause resentment and they'll support the Taliban and the warlords.
This takes a lot of time. |

so now because ALL OF YOU have been there you know exactly what youre talking about yes? but surely you all must have been there while there are bullets zingin by your kevlar helmets (in in some cases you still have them on), have a mortar drop not 50yds ahead of you but for some reason b4 it did you hit that ing sand like the dead piece of you are only to realize that god is just ing with you keeping you alive, or how about having a grenade go off and you are the lucky one but your buddy needs you to hold his intestines into what is left of torso area until med-techs/field AM can get to him? you were there right?
everyone of us wants out but there is no way out,so we have adapted to oh so much...the sanbox is not a fun place to play in ladies and gents, that it is not. Bush is controlling everything we do right now,our armed forces that is (and most of our guvt for those that pay attention), and there is really nothing that can be done about it...the UK is backing out if they havent already taken everyone out, and im sure as scared as all hell knowing that the russians are being pissed off cause of this thats going on...power and greed there gents, think back to a time when the rulers of nations wanted nothing more but to own it all.that is what is going on now...only why control a country when you can control whats in it that can make you wealthier in the end? the Bush legacy is a corrupt one, we need a Kennedy about now. and we will forever support the americans, its just one of those things that cannot be stopped. vote on it, preach against it, do whathaveyou but there will always be that support for the americans. i dont want to go in for Bush but if i got higher up tellin me thats how it is, well i cant really do much now can I. them boys were good troops but they died by what was writen on THEIR parchment, not what an american troop sees on their parchment, but what a Canadian troop sees...Corps,Country,Queen...i dont even know what the american one says cause i dont dont give a . i got some good buddies on that side tho and they are great people, just got caught up on the wrong side of the good guys (little humour). whatever thats all i got on this...goodnite ladies. |

Holy ! Do you suck Taliban Jack's dick or something? This sounds exactly like what he's saying.
You do know that an avg Muslim may not like the Yanks much, but they don't like what the extremists are doing in the name of Islam more, right? B/c what those fundy wackos are doing gives them a bad rep too. |

staying or leaving the Taliban arent going anywhere and you know that very well.Canads mission was to be there as peacekeeprs and that mission has turned into a full on combat. This is not our war and our troops dont deserve to die.Americans started this war and that should finish it and that will take decades and bollions of dollors out of ordinary people like yourself.
If thats the price you want to pay then by all means but leave others out of this mess. |

Oh come on, it's the plug and play generation here you're trying to convince.
It it's not ready to eat, in high definition with a saved game feature and more than a 15minute walk away they pout, jump up and down screaming that it's taking too long. |
