Oh schnap....J00F totally gives props to Sander van Doorn in his latest diary/article about how the handful of producers have broken through the past few years have had their own sound. I love J00F! And I love his article.
/svd fanboy mode off.
Here's the article...

Anything is possible
In todays world everybody wants to be a DJ or a record producer which seems an impossible feat with limited guest slots at clubs. Ever increasing Digital labels makes it slightly easier for producers to get their material released, but they become one of many and remain relatively unknown.....we've all had first had experience at sifting through hundreds of new releases at download shops every week. So how does an inspiring DJ/Producer get his/her big break in this tuff world? How do they get known? That is the million-dollar question!
There seems to be a fashion for people trying to emulate their heros. They see their favourite DJ's play at huge events and dream of the day when they can be like that. I don't see that as a problem, I think its human nature to follow such dreams. But what you must realise is that if you're dreaming of following in the footsteps of a DJ or producer that appeals to the commercial world, you are one of many who are aiming for the same goal. A thousand other new DJ's are putting the same sets together with exactly the same track lists. A thousand other producers are making the same style tracks with the same generic structure. You have the face reality and work out what the statistics are of you getting noticed?!
I think this is the problem in todays current climate. People are making tracks and DJ sets with a mission to make a hit and fast-track the process of becoming famous. If we wind back a few years, people where making music because they had a passion. New styles would constantly evolve because there was no pressure to make a big hit, many producers would dare to experiment with new sounds, styles and production tricks and classic tracks where born naturally. This is desperately missing from todays world as people keep producing a generic format following this dream to make the next big hit. I can't think of any DJ's/producers that have broken through over the past few years copying a generic sound? On the other hand if we look at guys that have broken ranks and just done their own thing a few have made a name for themselves, Sander van doorn is a prime example of this moulding his own sound.
So perhaps it is possible for some of you to follow that dream. Deep down inside we all have favourite style of music that we love, maybe you should start exploring that side of things both as a DJ and a producer and not feel pressured to make a bit hit to get noticed. Or like me, when I can't find styles of music to play in my set, I make those tracks in the studio, then they become unique to me and my style. I've learnt over the years in my career that anything is possible. I've always followed my heart and pursued my goal of finding music that I personally love so I can share with others when I play moulding my own sound.
It can be very hard work being out there all by yourself doing your own thing, at times its been a hell of a rollercoaster ride for me over the years. I was lucky enough to be gifted with a residency at and early age and a fruitful career thrived from this. Then fighting cancer for a couple of years took my whole career away from me. I had to start my life again battling for every gig while living in a friends spare room and owning an old 50 VW camper van to get me to those gigs!! Even a few years back was very hard for me as the whole Trance world focused it's attention on the more commercial side of things, I could have easily taken that route but I perused with the sound I love. I've been there myself and know the frustration that many of you are going through, but I'm an example that things are possible. I simply followed the music that I believed in and stayed focused ignoring what was going on round me with critics etc and get on with the job in hand. I think you'll find the same from many of my colleagues around me; they also have their own unique sounds.
Regular readers of my diarys and blogs know that I'm always here to help others. I hope this months diary makes you look at what you're doing from another angle and gets you inspired and motivated to make something happen with your music career and realize you may not be at a dead end, anything is possible if you put your mind to it.....I'm living proof ;) |

Alright, Dave is finally joining the dark side. I remember back in the days when 1015 used to have a message board, we occasionally would have a 1015 Board party in the blue room. I'm sure some of the old schoolers remember this with me. It was during the Spundae days at 1015. Pure progressive in those days. :) |
Hi Ish, those were the days man.... :thepirate |

Out soon! To be released 5.14.07:
John '00' Fleming v Wizzy Noise - Endelexia [JOOF RECORDINGS]
J00F039
We can hide the fact that this union between two of the most respected Trance producers seems to be a winning combination. Their previous single ‘Cydonia’ received 5 continuous weeks play on BBC Radio 1, one of the weeks being announced ‘Tune of the week’ and another being voted by the listeners and ‘their current favourite’ track!! John 00 Fleming & Wizzy Noise have taken things in a much more serious direction with ‘Endelexia’. They both share the same passion for their roots of underground Trance music. I think you’ll agree this is one serious slab of Trance music. Another huge package of quality remixes will ensure that all dancefloors are kept happy, ranging from John C’s awesome Progressive remix to JOOF’s current man of the moment’s, Jay Selway’s Psy edged remix. Fitting perfectly in the middle we have The Digital Blonde and Beetseekers remixes and we welcome the USA’s finest producer, Nicholas Bennison. We think you’ll agree something for everyone.
1. Endelexia - Original Mix 9:47
2. Endelexia - Beetseekers Remix 9:25
3. Endelexia - The Digital Blonde Remix 7:49
4. Endelexia - Jay Selway Remix 8:46
5. Endelexia - John C Remix 10:06
6. Endelexia - Nicholas Bennison Remix 8:24 |

4. Endelexia - Jay Selway Remix 8:46 The best remix of this track imo!! Selway by far has been on fire and I've been hammering his stuff for a long while!! N. Bennison has a great remix but I wasn't feeling the duration of the track.. I wish he would've spent more time on it. :(
Original is very powerful as well.
These three i enjoyed thus far. :)
Perhaps I may mix it for my third CD for the summer. Ismael Rodrigues - Engage. If you like Alliance 1 and when I release Alliance 2... Just wait for **Engage** which I have already been playing with some of my best tracks for summer. Stay tuned!! :) |
