Minimal is a FAD

How long before its Dead? It seems like minimal scene is more of a movement thats famous right now because people like to jump on band wagons and follow whats daft at the time. "Did you hear that new Bleep Blop Track By Bleep Blop Producer?". I doubt it will be a genre that has long standing appeal to the masses or comes back to the forefront again once its gone. You will see Progressive House or Progressive Breaks, or Dark Tribal House as the forefront of major EDM clubs around the world again, but Minimal...not so much. ::suits up level 76 anti-flame zoot suit::

Um... D'h?

You know it's a fad when even Tiesto had a go at some 'minimal' on his new album.

Like all trendy genres of this nature, it should fade away in another year, two tops. By then, most everyone will have tired of 'playing with their laptops'.

I agree. Minimal belongs more in lounges or warm up sets but it doesn't rock a dancefloor like trance, progressive house, tribal house, or techno (or even electro-house, even though I hate it). Really because minimal implies that there isn't much to the tracks, they are more or less repetitive beats, noises and melodic fragment that seems to go nowhere except on and on and on and on, where's the fun in that? I think a "minimal" amount of "minimal" is fine but when you have guys playing a lot of it mixed with electro-house, I just want to scream....eh hmmm...John Digweed..Sasha.....

The buzzword 'minimal' is gonna go away, but the music won't. It's not like this kind of music is new, it's been around for a long time, just under a bunch of different names.

Very soon ;)

What you listen to that's labeled as minimal....isn't minimal.

It's all techno and house, micro house, glitch whatever you want to call it.

It's not going to dissapear, just because you've heard about it for the first time and it is finally getting a lot more popular doesn't mean it is a sudden newly created genre. It's a fad because of Richie Hawtin and M_nus, he's a genius, M_nus is pretty good and so on.

If I were to choose anything to dissapear it would be Electro-House.

+1

Imo, minimal is basically hit-or-miss for me... there are productions that I absolutely love and then there's tunes that just go absolutely nowhere for me...

Also, Mobreakz, I think it is a bit ignorant to classify all Minimal songs as bleeps and bloops because there are minimal songs out there without those glitchy noises. I don't consider minimal a fad either, but I do think that it's popularity has reached higher levels because some people are starting to branch out and explore other genres, and I definitely don't blame them for doing so.

Edit:
I also agree with everything jupiterone wrote. I'm terrible when it comes to classifying music into genres :o

You do realize that Minimal in it's truest form has been around for a lot longer than you think, correct? It's had a solid fanbase from day one and is only now being exposed to the limelight and bastardized by mislabeled Tech House, etc.

Well okay, you could've just read jupiterone's post instead of mine.

I know minimal itsself is not going to go anywhere. Im talking about today's mainstream Minimal. Minimal probably wont go away for 200 years. Im talking about the Bleep Blop shennanagins. It really has no soul imo.

What a ty thread. The problem with clubbers these days is that they're used to going out and watching a DJ cram in all the big hitter songs into a two hour set so they've often got no patience for anything but big MASSIVE tunes.

lolol @ thread. The new "trance is dead?"
Clovis
Yeah, thread, enough paying attention to genres already.
