Guess no one spoke up? I couldn't myself.
ANYWAY, if Taj says it's OK I am gonna bring this with me (plus a light and if I can find a small one, a tripod too). Was lucky and able to check the camera that can be checked out from work.

First I'll need to be sure I have a secure place for my camera bag. It's big. Don't think it can simply fit under the lighting area!
I will film in spurts -- a track here, a track there, but not like an hour at a time. If the booth was HUGE and I could setup a steady tripod for a long period of time I'd consider it but the camera setup is too big to leave in one spot for a long period of time.
Not sure exactly when I'll arrive. Really depends on what options are available between dinner and going to Ten15. If the dinner runs late and then Ten15 is the best option right away then that's where I'll be. If it ends early and someone wants to go to their place to hang out while Ten15 fills up a little, I'll probably show up a bit later. I don't see myself showing up too much later than midnight...if that late at all!
I'll only have a couple tapes and a few big batteries. I'll be sure it's all charged, but sometimes batteries go whack. At Digweed one went from two hours left...then suddenly jumped to 35 minutes left...then 5 minutes later, jumped to like 6 minutes left and so I only got like 30-40 minutes of footage. I'll let a few other people handle the camera, but only if they appear sober and in control and only in the booth! It's a $5,000 system and if anything happens to it I am so fired. It's hard to get a hold of one to check out of the weekend. I try all the time and this is the first time since digger's weekend

I actually don't think that's legally necessary unless you or I stand to make profit off of it. Recording people on video is not illegal. By law it's considered a series of pictures and taking pictures w/o consent is legal. Audio laws are a bit different but if people are caught cheering and stuff it's incidental audio (it's like if you are out on a street recoring an interview and some people start making noise).
It's no different than if you are recording video from your digital camera. Technically, all the same laws apply.
I'm not being paid for this obviously so those notices are not really required. And Ten15 isn't going to be making some DVD to sell and make money off of it. If it's done, it'd be a notice to be courteous more than anything.
The consent needs to come from the DJ since you could possibly use any video as a promotion for the club and he's the performer. On the courtesy side, for the consent is so he is aware he is being recorded in case he decides to play a track he doesn't want anyone outside of the club to hear. Like if he's testing out a track he's working on or something.
Where the trickery in law applies is with the music. Which is why when it's all over, I only make videos like a minute long or so at a time. Fair Use laws baby. I could easily get away with longer clips but I'll leave that up to Taj's discretion.
I need to head home now but if signs are really needed and Ten15 can't make them I will try to stop by work on the way in tomorrow and print some up. Just let me know what you want them to say and I'll make like 30 copies to be safe!
I have to worry about getting consent forms signed all the time. Our team is actually at Pier 23 right now setting up to record some CD release party (I Scream Bars for the Children CD Release w/ Dahlak & DJ Wonway) for mp3.com. |
