| Here's one: On Ayla's "Angel Falls", how can you get that gated angel sound they had in that one? (maybe formant synthesis ala Supernova II) If anyone has any ideas I'd like to know. I can get an angelic sound on a pad, but once I start playing it fast the effect kind of disappears. |

ive just had a listen to the track cos its not one i was familiar with. do you mean the angel choir sort of thing? if so...that is just a vocal sample.....its definetly not supernova formant synthesis (that just creates wierd waveforms). gimme a tracktime when the sound first occurs and ill have another listen.
ps i cant hear a lot of gating on any part of the tune....u sure thats what u mean? |

| Yeah, it had been a while since I had listened to it, I guess it is just a vocal sample. |

I'll try to get this thread back on topic:
One sound design tip I can offer is it to use an LFO on the arpeggio pattern with a sample & glide waveform.
Set the clock to 2/1 ratio or 4/1. |

If I have one piece of advice on creating some nice sounds, get a hold of an arpeggiator with multiple patterns, notelengths, and swing settings and see how much sleep you get. |
Where can i find such an arpeggiator ?

| Well, I can't speak about too many synths b/c I only have an Access Virus B. The Virus allows you to do this. My guess is a Supernova would as well. I've also heard that Logic Platinum has some interesting appregiators, but I don't think their patterns and swing times can be changed with LFO. |

most soft synths will be useless for this.....supernova cant do it either
my virus c is my only synth that can |

can anyone upload a demo mp3 about this arpeggiator sound ? would be great ...:gsmile:

Hmm, too bad i can't afford a virus then.. what about the arpeggiators of the more reasonably priced OB12 or JP8000 and others ? how are they compared to the virus arp ?

i think that those new novation synths (KS4 & KS5) could have some great arpeggiators too. there was some demo on future music cd... and ks4 is really cheap (around 1000$) for what it offers.

i tried the arp trick and it wasnt that useful...
most arps on synths are fairly similar but the only ones i can comment on are the virus and the nova/supernova. hte virus one is the best ive found but you cant write your own patterns in it. |

| It is only useful if the lfo clock that is controlling the arp is set to a very slow speed, like a 2:1 ratio. I was basically just trying to revive this thread. I agree, the virus has a very nice arp, but you can't make your own patterns. |
