Epic day, then night, then day. Fifteen hours solid :disbelief
Made it up to the Skybar around 3:30am 'cuz it was too effing crowded in the main room and we weren't feeling the gallery... Got really bored as the sunrise buildup started from 4:30-5:30 or so (but I guess that was the point...) Definitely a cool set (but I still wish Desyn woulda been there). More later. |

well i'm feeling pretty sapped of energy today, but last night/morning was great. I moved around rooms probably the most i've ever done, it wasn't too crowded so you could quickly check out each room and pick the best one. I wish i had a schedule of some kind because i only knew who i was listening to a few times, the dj's that i've seen before.
got there around 12, took way longer to get to guv than i expected due to people leaving ontario place after fireworks. Not much of a lineup at all, got in within 10 minutes. Not sure who was playing in the Guv when i got there but the tempo was far too slow for me, so we went room wandering. ended up in the drink...not sure who was on, but some interesting beats. It was hard to get into a steady groove though, it seemed like the DJ was playing with his mixer too much and was constantly cutting the beat off. In search of greener pastures went down to the Orange room just as Syndey Blu was coming on. Now that was more like it! I finally caught the groove i was looked for. Must have been there for a few hours. There was plenty of space for dancing which I love, I move around alot and hate feeling compressed. Checked in on the Guv main room again but the vibe was still way too slow. Went briefly up to sky bar, way too packed but cooled down for 20 or so...good tribal percussion going on, lots of bongos and shakers.
Moved back down to the Orange Room...I think it was Carlo Lio. Enjoyed his beats for 45 or so but they began to sound similar after awhile, I needed some more melody. Moved to the Guv and listened to a few tunes from a live band (Motor?). The guy that was playing the electronic drums was faking it I think...most of the tunes sounded programmed. I wasn't feeling it at all, the melody was just a squiggle. I felt myself slowing down because I wasn't hearing the tunes to keep me going. I felt like the night was over...moved back to the Drink in the last hope to keep me going...and man, i heard the best tunes of the night. Caught the end of the Bassbin Twins (i think). Really different, some weird remixes...One o'clock two 'clock 3 o'clock jump!
The guy that came on after the Bassbin twins was incredible. Set of the night for sure. Boysnoize i assumed, as they were listed top on the bill...must have been 8 just amazing tracks in a row, "foot stompers" as I call them...I just started going crazy, dancing so hard. My energy was back big time! If anyone can help me ID a track, he played one that kept saying "Are you okay"...in a weird voice...talking about taking too much E. Amazing tune! Also another one that kept saying "Get Down"...incredibly dirty hard beats. I saw the guy from MSTRKRFT in one of the booths, hard to miss the stache.
By this point it was about 6am, and I was slowing down a bit. I wanted to get up to the Skybar and cool down but the lineup was ridiculous and not moving at all. I checked out the guv, not sure who it was but they were playing some really old trance tunes from the late 90's...not really my thing. I grabbed some couch for a bit and then headed out into the sun.
A few comments - Not sure about the Guv renovations, it seems to me like there is a lot less lighting then before, I recall the light show being incredible last time i was there for Ultra Spin. The main laser is in a corner now which is stupid because it was partially blocked by the low lighting grids that they installed. I didn't see the main dry ice cannon at all...the new lighting wall was pretty cool though, although I always liked the fans that were there before.
This was the first time I'd been to the Drink in awhile, hadn't made it there in my last few Guv trips. I know those renovations are older...but I liked them. No more chains dripping water...the murals above the DJ were cool, really sexy...kept reminding me of my girlfriend.
So many guys with their shirts off. Not sure why the Guv attracts these people. One guy stood in front of Syndey Blu with his hands on his hips just staring into the crowd for an hour, not dancing at all...what is the point?
The few times I was in the Guv room I felt like i was the only white guy there. Seemed to be entirely 40 year old asians. Other rooms were a normal mix...not a big deal...but i thought it was weird.
Overall a great night, although I was very disappointed in the music in the main room. Just a lot of slow beats that really didn't get me going...i'm not sure when Lawler was playing in there but I checked it out a few times and he must have been on at some point when I was there.
I wish sometimes there was a video screen that listed the songs that the DJ's are playing...heard some sick tunes and have no idea what they were. |

average night for me.. i wasnt really impressed with lawlers skybar set, i overheard someone saying that management had to tell him to pick it up a little bit. i personally thought he would bring it a little harder.
i dont understand why he would admit he is ed.. the last thing i wanna hear after a average set is that he was intoxicated through the whole thing.. very unprofesional, making me feel like i just wasted my money listening to a druggie spin.. i realize most djs indulge themselves into the treats, but next time keep your thoughts to urself Lawler. most of us wanna hear a quality set not your current state of mind.
overall 6/10..
chances of me returning to guv complex again 1/10.. (unless they bring in sasha, then im in 100%) |

Someone plz tell me that Lawler Skybar set was recorded!!! |
I think its Kammishake, (sp?)...not deadmau5. I didn't hear the one Lawler played, but I've had this mix for a couple months and it sounds like something lawler would play. |
