How much jail time should women who have abortions get? (pg. 2)

if it's medically neccessary, none.
if it's because they believed in the pull-out system, give them an exam on basic algebra, reading/writing skills, and a pop quiz on international affairs. Failure results in a wire clothes hanger through the brain.

I'd say no punishment lets them do as they please... as long as the fetus isn't viable...

Zero. Pro-choice, not pro-life.
MeLLyMeL
NONE!

Period.

"Just pray for them"? :stongue:

Anyway, asking people with no knowledge whatsoever about the legal system what kind of punishment a woman who opts for an abortion should have is as absurd as asking an ordinary citizen what the salary of a psychologist with a master's degree should be, for a teaching position in university — most people probably can't even take a guess, unfortunately, I don't think our fellow psychologist would receive any prayers either :p

But there are only two logical choices: hold women accountable for a criminal act by sending them to prison, or refuse to criminalize the act in the first place.

Really? What about those kinds of crime that, instead of sending people to prison, result in community service? Not all criminals go to jail, to begin with.

Imprisonment, in the beginning, was just a "fair" way of comparing crimes and have criminals pay for what they had done. And, even in our days, prison sentences vary even if the crime committed was similar: there are just way too many variables to be considered, reason why being a judge is a tough job.

This is not surprising, though. Most people, no matter whether they're pro-choice or pro-life, capitalist or communist, religious or atheists, whatever the debate is about, often argue with their hearts rather than with their heads. No wonder the person who wrote the article couldn't come up with a good argument...

Doesn't the American Penal Code say absolutely anything about infanticide? That's where you should start looking.

haha you said "penal"

this is quite funny. watching this video its quite ridiculous that you would fight for a cause and then not have an answer on punishments that fit the "crime" that your fighting for. this is a great example of the blind leading the blind. idiocy at its best.

unfortunately, that is the way it is with some highly-charged political fights- take "gun control" for example-
the people who want more of it have never fired a weapon, let alone owned or had a concealed carry permit and carried one,
their opinion is based out of fear and ignorance.

from a technical viewpoint....

25 to life

same sentence that a doctor would have, since they wanted their fetus/baby killed

edit: of course i'm answering this question assuming that abortions are illegal

ikhouvanu
It depends on the situation, if they are being sluts and get pregnant for being irresponsible then umm, I don't know maybe a year of jail? But if it's something like what happened to my cousin, she was pregnant and she's against abortion but something happened that the baby was going to die before being born and her life was at risk too so she had no choice but to get an abortion then obviously no time because it wasn't her fault.

No, I'm not. I just think the journalist is as clueless as the demonstrators, who would do a better job if they decided to study law instead of "praying".

As for common sense, you can have it when you can't rely on anything else. However, there are law makers in your country (as well as in mine) who have (I hope) studied law for quite a few years and can probably do a better job than an average citizen who thinks they're entitled to have an opinion about everything there is.
