unfortunately, that is the way it is with some highly-charged political fights- take "gun control" for example-
the people who want more of it have never fired a weapon, let alone owned or had a concealed carry permit and carried one,
their opinion is based out of fear and ignorance.

haha gun control. one of my most hated blind leading the blind causes. i am vehemently against gun control. outlawing guns doesnt create less crime. its been proven in england, australia, and washington dc. dc has THE highest crime rate in the usa. guns are banned. i do agree with gun registration and blueprinting but im vehemently against outlawing any sort of guns.

No, I'm not. I just think the journalist is as clueless as the demonstrators, who would do a better job if they decided to study law instead of "praying".

As for common sense, you can have it when you can't rely on anything else. However, there are law makers in your country (as well as in mine) who have (I hope) studied law for quite a few years and can probably do a better job than an average citizen who thinks they're entitled to have an opinion about everything there is.

but lawmakers are idiots with laws at the same time. for sakes. a great example is the "is it ok" thread. statutory rape. the WORST written sexual assault charge to ever be created in the states. written and created by lawmakers. :)

To those of you who actually just responded to the question "How much jail time should women who have abortions get?" I just want to ask, did you at least read the article in the initial post?

Well, there is a story behind it. A particular law maker didn't just wake up one day and thought "OMG, my child is gonna get sex0red by a paedophile, better put 'im in jale!".

However, times have changed, and I do think myself that statutory rape is mostly unnecessary (not to mention difficult to say :p). I personally don't know anyone in Brazil who was sentenced to jail because of that... and there was a big commotion because of guy in his early twenties who had shagged a 14 year old girl, mainly because the girl certainly didn't look 14, the guy didn't even know it was a crime, and it was her decision to pursue the boinking sessions.

So, law makers aren't as stupid as the law might seem :)

well brazil has a very different societal acceptance of younger women with older men. while the USA has some very different societal norms. the law makers never seem to think about the laws they are making. at least here in the states thats the way it seems. they arent forward thinking. they create a law to "fix" a problem and then MAYBE deal with the ed up repercussions later. the abortion debate seems to be one that will end in the same manner.
