well brazil has a very different societal acceptance of younger women with older men. while the USA has some very different societal norms. the law makers never seem to think about the laws they are making. at least here in the states thats the way it seems. they arent forward thinking. they create a law to "fix" a problem and then MAYBE deal with the ed up repercussions later.

Well, how many people do you know have actually been sentenced to jail because of statutory rape? Are you sure judges actually think this law should be followed? There is, after all, some criticism.

My cousin (one who I had really, really looked up to as a youngster) went to jail twice for 30 days when he was 18 years old for sleeping with a 16 year old who he had been dating for over 3 years.

Ruined his life.

Wait, who "denounced" him? How was he sentenced to prison in such circumstances? Didn't the girl's parents say anything? This is, indeed, absurd.

i have a friend who is a registered sex offender due to this very law. he was dating a girl who was under age at the original time he started dating her but when it all ended she was legal. she was mad and claimed statutory rape. boom. his life has now been ED for the rest of his life. yes thats right. FOREVER! he cant get SOO many jobs. he must register with the state wherever he goes. they can ruin his life wherever he goes. and its LEGAL. he didnt do anything wrong either. oh and must i mention that it has now been almost 10yrs since this happened and he still has tons of problems stemming from this.:(

Why aren't there demonstrations trying to draw the authorities' attention to these problems? The debate exists, as I have quoted, and whereas ordinary people aren't law experts, they do deserve at least an explanation from the experts themselves, specially when the law causes problems to "productive" individuals.

because the lawmakers dont want to admit the law is so flawed that it needs to be repealed. also it would draw criticism for being repealed even though its done no good.

and people here in the states are so "if it doesnt effect me i dont give a " that our most basic rights are violated and abused every day!
