I'm sincerely glad I don't live in the United States, it's becoming a backwater religious fundi-fest a little more every year like all the backwater muslim fundamentalist countries they go to war with. |

Oh this debate again.
A fetus is not a person. It's closer to a ing parasite. Kill it all you want. Who the cares, really? Whose right is it to tell you what you can and can't do with some ty little thing in your womb?

I find it disconcerting that Australia is becoming a little more 'Americanised' over time, adopting some facets of the US culture which to be blunt, aren't exactly some of it's better ones. There's a lot of good things still to be said about the US but they're under siege from the small, noisy minorities that get heard only because the vast majority seem to be completely apathetic until it's too late. But I guess endemic stupidity/apathy isn't the sole preserve of the US, happens in most countries. |

P.S. inb4theresa | You skipped the first post, didn't you?
Ironically, your stance seems to be just the other side of the coin. |

Great article.
It touches on another serious issue that is central to political dialogue in this country right now, and one of the main reasons why Democratic candidates have been losing elections despite having the popular vote. Conservatives have been successfully re-framing the debate to make their positions more appealing for the last 30 years.
I read a brilliant little book called "Don't Think Of An Elephant" which essentially illustrates that point, and offers ways to re-frame it in favor of a progressive viewpoint. I highly recommend it.

Also, I think Abortion Rights should be left for women and women only to decide. |

Sure,
The first post is about how clueless some of the demonstrators were, and how "emotional" some of them were about the whole issue, clearly showing that they had not thought at all about the issue as a whole. Then you come and say something just as irrational (replacing the pro-life "abortion is wrong because the bible says so" by a pro-choice "abortion is okay because the foetus is a parasite").
You didn't even seem to acknowledge the fact that the problem being discussed is "mass opinion" rather than abortion itself. |
