| i use RE (rapid evolution) for all my keying/bpm checking.. so far its been accurate.. a program that i noticed wasnt so accurate on some songs is traktor. it likes to say some bpm is like 65.0000 or some out of whack number |

Well that's probably just a 130 bpm track that it's only picked up every other beat on then... |

cdjs do the same on drum and bass song, 90 instead of 180. |

I don't even export my edits at the same tempo (always use the original) :wtf: |
So Morillo did not have to match his tracks when you observed this? I did not even think of finding a software to set to one standard pitch, or even check the exact bpm. It's seems like so much time and effort goes into avoiding matching and mixing. |

Pitch didn't move all night. |

that's just wild to me...I guess I am ignorant. I am sure he can beatmatch though if he chose. I guess they just want to be able to throw in tracks quickly? Am I correct? Just lazy? I imagined from his mixes he was just matching in like 8 beats cause it's just second nature. |

| i must say i have seen morillo wreck a couple of times... usually after spinning for 6 more hours. |

Morillo's beatmatching was pretty suck last time i saw him (a year or two ago). lots of drifting, a couple of wrecks.
sucks too, this began just as he also became a lot more commercial. back when he was more into deep house, he was also an incredibly smooth mixer. |

werd. Last time i saw Morillo, he was going crazy on the loop feature on the CDJ, which caused all sorts of wrecks. |

i don't have much to add, but i just wanted to say this is a good/interesting thread.
i only edit the BPM of tracks if they're not at a whole number... and yes, i've bought several tracks from digital download sites that were at 126.1 or 123.5 or something weird like that. i also increase the BPM if i have a track that's at 119 or 120, since most of my tracks are between 123-129. i'd just rather edit them ahead of time than have to pitch them up too much while i'm playing. |

Just out of curosity, how do you edit the tracks to do that? I would assume its something done in any DAW, logic, ableton etc? |

How did you find they were not a "whole number"? If you ran it through a BPM counter, it was probably an error. BPM counters aren't that accurate. I don't know any producers who wouldn't set their BPM to a whole number, the difference is non-existent lol. :p
If the song was ripped from vinyl (warez), there would be some drift in the BPM. If it remained digital from start to finish (anything on Beatport etc.), the only thing that would occur is samplerate/bitdepth reduction, which wouldn't affect the BPM. It's pretty redundant to edit the pitch to a whole number like that anyway, when you shift to match another track, the BPM wont be in a whole number anymore. |
