Right. Proper review time.

Coming to this event I admit I had high expectations. After listening to few of Sasha's sets, esp. Bonaroo and the EM, I had an idea of what I'm going to get from Sasha and I thought it'd be good, to brave the crazy crowd in the main room.

So put on my Napoleon costume, (Barbina, recognize who I am now? lol) and so I arrived at the Guv around 11pm. Didn't wait too long through the guestline line and got in after 15 mins or so. Saw the lineup behind me and I thought, this is going to be ridiculous busy. (I think I'm going to end up saying that a lot)

Already the place was about half full. Had a walk around enjoying various costumes. I thought the chariot act would take the act, but saw the robot later on and I wasn't too sure. lol. Met up with few other TAs and enjoyed the beats of Mark O. for a while and headed to the Gallery.

So, that's where a lot of the TAs were chilling. At least there was room to just hang out and enjoy the beats. I dunno. The tunes from the Gallery were decent, but I found it kinda repetitive after a while. The crowd was very into it though, so I waited patiently. Around 1 though, decided to try to have another walk around.

Holy . I could barely move during the costume contest. I saw some of it though and meh. Was starting to get a bit frustrated by the pushy people and the fact that I can't go anywhere. Didn't help by the cobwebs that were nice decorations, but keep getting into people's face and added to my annoyance. Found a spot by the corner and people weren't as pushy there and saw Spooky.

Meh. I guess warming up for Sasha is a rather hard thing to do. Set wise, decent tracks, but didn't feel the programming. Some tracks were very bland and just left me frustrated and made me more impatient for Sasha to come. He only lasted 1 hr I think and Sasha got on.

By this time, I'm trying to stay relaxed as the heat was starting to get to me but I braved it for Sasha. 20 mins of rather bland tunes that was designed for a build up. The tunes got interesting for a while and I was digging the stuff Sasha was throwing down. Couldn't handle the crowd below and saw some TAs on the top by the Drink entrance so I made my way there.

Thank goodness. Some space! Sasha dissolved the set into what I call drug music. Music so sketchy that you get sketched just listening to it. Reminded me a bit of stuff Lawler was throwing down during Canada Day. Lots of fat bassline. Some really creepy tunes. Enjoyed this part a lot.

But he didn't do much afterwards. A little bit of teasing to bring the energy level back, but brought it back down afterwards. I was expecting Sasha to do more with the set, but he seemed happy to just keep the crowd grooving, not break the crowd into craziness like Carl Cox did with the crowd at Guv 11yr. Did enjoy some of the tunes I recognized from the EM. Funny thing was Spooky was like the guy most enjoying Sasha's tune.

On a recommendation I went to the Gallery to check out Marco Carola around 4:30. At least I hoped it was Marco Carola as I thought the tunes were a bit similar to regular the Gallery stuff, with odd bits of twist. Enjoyed it for about 30 mins and went back to Sasha. (But weren't allowed back upstairs!) :o

The DJ I was most impressed with this night was Mark Oliver. Now I know Mark O can throw it down with the best of the world, but with Guv 11yr set, he really got me into the music with the closing set. Bits of chuggy prog laced with vocals. He took what Sasha left him, and just did more with the music. Highlight was some Born Slippy remix and Deadmau5 - Not Exactly.

Left around 6:30 with overall satisfaction of the night. Friends made the night worth braving the busy pushy crowd, music was decent, but not spectacular.

Overall: 6.5/10
Tune of the Night: Deadmau5 - Not Exactly

Apparently I was at a different party than most of you last night.

I found my spot on the balcony as soon as we got there and did not move (with the exception of one walk around). This allowed us to enjoy the party with out being pushed, elbowed or fondled.

Yohan, Grinder and I were on the same page as Spooky. Throughly enjoyed the Sasha experience.

He spent a good part of his set with the DJ booth raised. This made him equal with the balcony and gave us a better shots of the booth and Sasha.

While I appreciate MO for being a great resident at Guv there is no real comparison between him and Sasha. 2 different leagues.

I checked out Marco briefly and he was pretty nuts.. by the time I made it to the gallery I was ready to call it a night so I only stayed for a few minutes.

All in all.. great time with friends and tunes. 4/5 stars for me.

I've never seen that room go off like that before. New respect for techno, thank u sir for that unique and refreshing sound. 10/10.

Hmmm... hahah yeah. Can someone please ing explain to me what happened in the Gallery last night? hahah Something incredibly ing strange happened, at the flick of a switch the party went from really good to "what the this is unreal and I now have to re-train myself how to drink water as I've forgotten GOOD".

This is going to sound hysterical, but Corolla played the best set I've ever heard in my life. My head is still very much confused and baffled as to what ACTUALLY happened in the Gallery. At the moment I'm still almost polarized over everything... what was that?

These are the reviews that I am pissed that Guv had him play on Halloween of all nights :whip: They opt not to bring in techno any other time of the year, then Halloween and BOOM!! (yes, I am bitter.. lol)

I wasn't as disappointed about missing Sasha as I was missing Carola (especially after missing Beyer the night before as well) I didn't get in any of the techno that was in the city this weekend :(

But it is nice to see all you househeads out there having such great techno reviews.. hahaha ^5

I sold my ticket for Destiny to choose to come to this... and was I ever NOT dissappointed.

I don't even really like the kinda music Sasha plays.... But last night.... Sasha was PERFECT! :)

I agree, it was the worst I've ever seen the Guv! But maybe ya'll need to stop worrying about all of those tards and find a spot on the dancefloor and let the ing music take you away! Just a few joints and I got sooooo lost in Sasha's set that I consider it to be one of the best sets I've heard! I've never heard anything like it before! I even caught Sasha & Digweed's Reunion tour last year in AUS, where they each play for 2-3 horus then back to back for a couple hours.... and it didn't sound anywhere as good as what I heard last night!

Those Guv speakers got a full-on workout last night! They were being slapped, spanked and torn apart from every sound that came from them.
Sasha has definately proved himself to me, and I'll probably never want to miss him again.... like seriously... where the does he find that ???? Did you see him up there? The man was focused and wasn't letting anything distract him.... A true professional and he's showed me why he's loved so much! :D
