How is that elitism? People should go to parties and lose themselves in the music. And no I don't go to parties were people have glowsticks. Obviously since I'm not 14 and I like actual Techno music and some Tech house, so you won't see anyone with glowsticks there.

I think there is a Chinatown in every big city except Miami.

Which is why it's such a culture shock when I go to San Fran and now up here in NY.

Maybe elitism is the wrong word. I guess I'm just startled by all the hating, especially on a relatively innocuous practice that actually has roots in the culture itslef. (aside from the aforementioned inconsiderate folk, which I think we can agree are universal.) I just don't understand how something so harmless can piss people off so much. You say people should go to parties and lose themselves in the music... what if getting lost involves glowsticks for some people? Does that really hurt you? What about the other ways that people "enjoy" music? Could I say that people that go to a party and drink alcohol are just silly drunk kids that aren't really there to enjoy the music? Personally, drunks bother me way more than candy kids... but it's totally their right, and it's not my place to knock their lifestlye.

Everyone has their own way of enjoying music, as evident through the myriad of styles associated with enjoying it. I always viewed the scene as a place where a diverse group of folks from any walk of life could gather together and feel a universal flow of music; channeling it each in their own unique ways and adding to a central vibe that is 'the party.' It's my belief that if you are really going to 'lose yourself in the music', then a few kids waving glowsticks, or rowdy drunks, or coked out anorexics, or pushy sweathogs, or any other minor annoyance of any large group of people shouldn't effect you; right?

I absolutely hate glowstringers in a club (hitting people on all directions, getting their strings tangled on objects), only have a interest for freehand, I dont do it at clubs anymore its just way too much of a hassle to get enough room.

I only break them out in areas where there is either enough room without asking for it, or before it gets too crowded. I loved it in LA where there were puddles. Made glowsticking easy and there was a ready audience who wanted it.

Here in Atlanta, meh. Like I said before, if I can get room without pushing people aside for it, great, if not then I don't break them out. I like to dance with them, but not at the expense of others' enjoyment.

I freehand by the way. Stringing is fine, but I don't do it.And at a club it takes up a lot of room. A LOT! It there is room for it fine, but one shouldn't press for the room to do something like that.
