Not really.
I had a great time last year but felt that his set flow and read of crowd was horrible this time. His track selection was okay, but not fantastic.
By 3-4am it seemed to everyone in our group that he had lost the crowd entirely, only the people right up front seemed to be paying any attention. |

Awesome night. Quick summary.
Production: Probably best I have seen in Melb, especially when Armin came out! Lighting, pyro, screens, paper stuff flying around. I think there is still some stuck in my hair. I may have even eaten some of it.
Sound: Insane! Chunky and crisp at the start. Though I think it was cranked even more when Armin came on. Got a bit distorted after that, or maybe I was well deaf by that point.
Music: Armin always delivers the goods. The proggy stuff at the start was awesome. Then when he came on he pretty much belted it out for 6hrs. Plenty of decent new vocal trance, generally I am not a fan but I enjoyed what I heard last night. Some belting uplifters, ie, the 2nd tune he played really launched his set (anticipation I think it was?), my god the place went spastic. Sure there may have been a few cheesy ones, but no one near some of the garbage/cheese tiesto played a month back. Not sure it dropped below 135bpm after the prog stuff finished. Then again I could be wrong! Got pretty hard in the end which I loved, always need a bit of everything. Preferred the classics he played last year, though they were still great.
Mixing: I thought his mixing wasnt up to his normal standard, I noticed heaps more than usual where he dropped them in out just about everytime and had to correct. Perhaps he couldnt hear properly. He always recovers them well tho, or sort of changes the mix/change to cover it up a little. Maybe he couldnt hear properly? From what I could see it look like he was mixing in the cans more than normal? Still better than when I saw Tiesto a month back, Tiesto was dropping them in out them in out and they basically stayed that way throughout the mix, or it was out of time. Not trying to diss Tiesto coz he is great too, just my comparison of the 2 parties. Noticed armin uses the mixer effects a lot more than he used too.
Crowd: Seemed up for it, packed really early. Went spastic when Armin started and through most of the night. Plenty of nice scenery ;-) Few more muzza's than last year, doing there usual flex/pose dance. Wierd that the crowd didnt go so spastic when communication was on, and when armin finished from I heard? (as I left at 6). Perhaps we all just went way to hard too early, that wouldnt be like us melbournians would it? :-)
Highlights: When armin started. Playing Dream Flight (Mike Nichol Remix). Went off! And they turned on the pyro for it too! How awesome. If only Mike had of been there for it!!! And a number of other huge tunes/builds which names escape me at the moment.
All in all, fantastic, Thank you Armin. Hurry up and come back. |

was great fun: went off my when he played about 5 of his tunes in a row.. phwoar! he used to produce ing ch00ns...
i think if he wants to keep doing the live thing he needs to get the acts to ing rehearse properly!! and get rank 1 to look at the crowd in a way that doesn't make it seem like he wants to kill us all! but yeah, pretty much a FAIL accross the board on the singers. the dude who sung going wrong was the only good one, but that's not that hard: rock voice is just speaking :p
at one stage, perpetuous dreamer was singing sound of goodbye, and she missed her cue, and there was the lyrics anyway, so she was clearly miming... i wish that the other singers had been, cause at least sound of goodbye sounded good.
Ellar was awesome. keep him :D
armin dj set > armin only IMHO-- would prefer 9 hrs, without the singers etc... it's ok, but it's just a gimic...
still love armin tho: puts on an amazing party: i think his excellence comes from his interaction with the crowd: he's a true show-man. constantly smiling, looking around for parts of the crowd that aren't dancing and getting them into it. good . his tracks were pretty well-selected i thout, he built up, slammed some bangin tunes out, then dropped it back down and started again more times than i can remember.. pretty cool. |

armin actually does use more effects than other djs i guess its to actually bring in the strobes for an uplifting effect, and i did notice he had ear plugs in so maybe something was off. p.s - the vocals from the females wasnt as great as i thought, rene was only good when she was screaming "HOW U DOING MELBOURNE" still a 8/10. and... i must say this for any1 that heard armins last armin only, Audrey Gallagher her voice didnt break lol nice work :P

crowd i think knew what to expect other from what it was last year.. no1 really knew, i still however think people lying down on the D floor right in the middle.. next time look around there are seats..
all in all my review on it was awesome crowd was great, music was great, armin just totally rocked it as he always does. the actual layout was much better than last year if u got to the front u actually felt like u could talk to him, lighting was much better than last year, my only concern was.. wtf at the 6 girl dancers do they know how to move with the beat??? still hot though.. shotgun!!!
Great night looking forward to GK's then Sensation white..
peace! |
