A-town representin'! :P gold!
Awesome night. Great meeting some TAs - RaverSpike - enthusiasm deluxe!
Too many highlights to mention, atmosphere from 10-12 was electric. 5 onwards was a bit messy. Tunes were epic. Production was wicked, although I felt like I was at crown casino at times :/
Crowd was not as good as last year. Watching meat-heads pluck each other's chest hairs on the stairs was disturbing.
Vids n pix soon yar yar. |

Sweet night thats for sure.
The set itself was pretty banging from start to finish which surprised me, pleasantly i might add. Warm up set simply went for too long as did the actual night. Could of quite easily finished 1hour earlier, even 2 and there would have been no dfference to the standard of the night
Nice to meet you sunrise, keen to see some snaps. Looking through my photo's i have one to many of him doing that silly jesus pose
Production was awesome - lasers weren't strong enough i thought, or i was just blind.
Singers were average on reflection. At the time they were awesome but thinking back most of the songs were butchered. If you should go and shivers were a massive crowd pleasers.
Alot of pepole wanted more classics but there were a few in there, i think majority of the crowd just don't know them. Pretty sure only 10% would have ever heard Dremaland before.
Definately got my trance fix for the next couple of months.....unless Infinity lives up to some of the hype
p.s no alcohol after 3am was absolutly house and a pointless effort to reduce binge drinking. All i wanted was to sit back with a beer around 5 so i could get my second wind and come home strong. Instead i sipped on precious water.
papers reported 30 odd arressts and 12000 poeple having the time of their lives a professionally run event...wait no i imaginied that second bit |

My review is up on ITM in the event reviews section!
But!!!! It's been edited by someone else who made typos which i hope will get fixed!!!
this is what my original review was:
The prestigious title of the “World’s Number One DJ” entails respect, admiration and high expectations regardless of the arguable theory that it’s essentially a popularity contest. However, you can’t ignore the fact that the world’s number one has to be undoubtedly talented at their job. Armin van Buuren is a dj that earned the status last year, and now is touring around the globe to prove us why he is the best of the best. When the announcement came that he would be playing in shows around Australia, we were all stunned to discover he’d also give a 9 hour performance with special guests; It takes a strong character to have the endurance to play for that long, but ultimately the challenge shows that he is committed to pleasing the people that got him to where he is today.
On the 8th of June, at Vodafone Arena (the home of his previous White Party in 2007) hundreds of people had queued to enter when I arrived at twenty past nine. My heightened anticipation and excitement to get inside helped time pass quickly, even though it took an hour to get into the venue. The never-disappointing set up done by Future Entertainment instantly grabbed you when you descended into the ‘pit’ within the arena, which boasted two huge screens on either side of a massive cylindrical curtain that surrounded a projected silhouette of Armin’s figure and other visualisations. Upon the roof were white stars and spotlights that swayed colours around the dancefloor, creating a kaleidoscopic atmosphere within booming, clear sound from the speakers.
As we watched the curtain awaiting the appearance of the featured dj, we were treated to some progressive house such as Morgan Page’s track with Lissey, “The Longest Road”. Nearly an hour passed and the sheet was still yet to drop, when suddenly the gorgeous Jennifer Rene arose from behind the cylinder with a microphone, and the deep bassline from Sied van Riel’s remix of “Invincible” began. Without a quiver in her voice, she sang the lyrics with ease and grace, grabbing the attention of the dancers on the floor. Her performance was promising and exciting, only generating more anticipation from what was yet to come. We also heard Lenny Kravitz’s track “Believe in Me” remixed by Mind One, Deadmau5’s remix of Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” and Sander van Doorn’s remix of SIA – The Girl you lost to Cocaine. The housey prog was beginning to merge towards melodic sounds and unique visuals to match some of his tracks. This was the first time I had seen a dj utilize visuals to enhance his own productions with what I believe was a Pioneer VDJ console (this isn’t 100% certain though); his track with Jaren named “Unforgivable” saw a projection of the vocalist on the screens and curtain, singing the song. The Balearic track “White Sand” by Sunlounger got an Eller van Buuren treatment, with him grabbing his guitar, playing the melody and having the crowd wrapped around his finger. A few tracks later, Miss Rene appeared again to sing “Fine Without You”, and at this point, the room was full of people, bustling around trying to get to the front.
Many tracks later, it was about 1:30am when all the lights within the room fell dark. A rolling, thunderous heartbeat pounded throughout the venue, everyone screamed Armin’s name repeatedly and a loud voice said “IMAGINE”, whilst words he spoke flickered upon the screens. “People of Melbourne” was spoken next, when the melody of his track “Shivers” played softly. The voice said “Welcome to Armin Only” and a medley of Armin’s best tunes like “Sail”, “Communication”, and “Serenity” soared through as he said “Imagine a world without boundaries… What would the world look like without imagination… Tonight we will travel through your imagination, vision, sound, touch, scent, emotion”. The crowd was in a hysterical frenzy and suddenly, the piano from Armin’s track “Imagine” played, his white silhouette posed with his headphones in the air, and Eller van Buuren launched onto the stage, striking chords on his guitar. “Look to the sky, visualize the music… Welcome to our world” and the curtain fell, revealing the man with a smile on his face, his arms in the air ready to show us what he can do.
One of my top tracks for 2008 came next, Lemon & Einar K’s “Anticipation” and from herein we followed him on a progressing path that stepped up to bigger, banging trance. After a crescendo of pretty tracks like Cressida’s “6am” (Kyau & Albert Remix), Peter Martijn Wijnier’s “Not the end” Vs DJ Shah feat Adrina Thorpe’s “Who will find me” and M6’s “Fade to Black”, he delivered the new tune we all were waiting for. Armin’s narrator asked us to imagine again, and this time imagination brought us the edgy rockstar Chris Jones onto the right of the stage, holding a microphone looking out onto the thousands with their hands pointing to him. Dj Shah’s gorgeous melody on the piano echoed throughout as Chris emotively began, and the rest of us joined him. The intensity of the moment was only heightened further after the climax, when he sang the chorus and confetti poured over us, creating a beautiful and memorable moment for the night. Without allowing us to recover from the epic performance, Susanah joined Armin next, knocking us all over with her live version of “If You Should Go (Aly & Fila Remix)”. The strength of her voice empowered the track, and it only emphasized that she’s much better live than recorded.
After a plethora of lesser known yet chunky tech trance, which sounded distortedly loud, Armin was going to draw us back in and open a floodgate of his most paramount tracks in consecutive wave. Starting with his track with Nadia Ali “Who is watching”, and then the following tracks in a seamless blow:
Armin van Buuren feat Eller van Buuren (LIVE) - Zocalo
Armin van Buuren - Control Freak (Sander van Doorn remix)
Armin van Buuren & Rank 1 - This world is watching me (Cosmic Gate remix)
Armin van Buuren - Sail
Armin van Buuren - Serenity
Armin van Buuren feat Ray Wilson - Yet Another day
Armin van Buuren feat Justine Suissa - Burned with desire (Rising Star remix)
Skunk Anansie - Brazen Weep (Richard Durand remix)
Andain - Beautiful Things
Alex M.O.R.P.H & Woody van Eyden - Walk the Edge
Vengance - Temptation (Denga & Manus remix)
Jon O'Bir - Ways and Means (Paul van Dyk remix)
John O'Callaghan feat Audrey Gallagher (LIVE) - Big Sky
Armin van Buuren feat Audrey Gallagher (LIVE) - Hold on to me
Binary Finary - 1998
Armin van Buuren - Rain
Barber’s Adagio for Strings (Live piano played by Rank 1)
Armin van Buuren – Communication (Live piano played by Rank 1)
Art of Trance - Madagascar (unknown remix)
Simon Patterson - Smack
Paul van Dyk & Giuseppe Ottaviani - Far Away
Erik de Koenig - Dreamflight (Mike Nichol remix)
Armin van Buuren feat Elles de Graff (LIVE) - The Sound of Goodbye (edit)
Markus Schulz - Fly To Colours (Genix Remix)
Watching the reaction from the highest seating level was breathtaking because seeing that many people unified by music showed me why Armin does these parties. The complete time, Armin remained composed, modest and fun behind the decks and it was easy to see that he was truly enjoying it. The incorporation of other performers emphasized that it’s not just about him, but about sharing it with others.
At this point, we could see that Armin was fatigued and the mixing started to become a little looser, but as the night was drawing to a close he wasn’t going to let the quality of the music stop. A track that was unexpected and mindblowing to hear was LSG’s “Netherworld”, NuNRG’s “Dreamland” followed by one final performance from Jennifer Rene named “Louder (Jon O’Bir remix)”. John O’Callaghan and Brian Kearney’s track “Exactly” brought the energy back, then System F’s “Exhale” came next to take us back to 2001 and he rewound the clock even more with Robert Miles’s “Children”. His closing track was from his Imagine album “In and Out of Love”, an interesting conclusion we all knew that wasn’t the real end. As his narrator presented his outro, and Future Entertainment’s Mark James asked us to thank Mr Number 1, we were given one more; Cassandra Fox’s “Touch Me (Mike Koglin & Jono Grant remix). The stunning synths spread over the die hard fans that were there til the end who knew the words. The beautiful conclusion left most people satisfied, complete and assured that Armin deserves his title.
Overall, the night was unforgettably amazing, regardless of the minor flaws within the sometimes-aggressive crowd or distorted sound. Many dj’s over the world focus on presenting themselves, and just themselves, but don’t care for incorporating friends, new and upcoming talents, other labels or everyday fans. That’s the difference with Armin van Buuren, week after week, he strives to communicate trance and progressive to others, with others dynamically and passionately. |

Great write up. Agree with the sound, got a bit too loud and distorted, more noticably after the curtain dropped.
I thought Armin came on at 12.30 not 1.30? |
