Like I said; If it's all about the music, and the crowd doesn't matter, then why does ANYONE bother going out at all? You could sit in your car and play CD's all night long and be just as happy, going on that theory. |
I've done that a few times when there's nothing worth checking out. Not necessarily my car, because I live in a house. But you get the idea. |

| ^^^Same here. It can be more fun, when compared to the alternatives sometimes, lol ;) |

You work with sound for a living yet you think Vanguard's system is amazing? I don't get it lol. Vanguard's acoustics are horrible, it has rectangular cement walls on either side and a layout that is really un-friendly to good sound, despite having such a good system. Like I said, I only really enjoy the system there when I'm smack in the middle of a floor and further back from the booth. In the front of the booth theres almost no bass response.
Did you ever go to ICE in vegas?
THAT place had an amazing Funktion1 system.
Plus, the speakers at Avalon are not facing each other, each is angled down towards the floor making a sort of V shape, and the ones in the front and back are angled in. Also, because they are so high up you rarely hear the point where the signals cancel each other, although I admit I have heard it a few times when it is really loud with not many people on the floor. |

Ah jeez, here we go...
Avalon's system is designed to sound good on the dance floor because it is a dance club. It is designed to make people want to be on the dance floor to hear the music best.
When they have concerts there, they use those flying j arrays you see at the front. Those make the whole place sound good (but not as good as the club system on the dance floor)
While you are correct about diff wavelengths interfere and cause dead zones and hot zones, this has been taken to account and minimized tremendously (on the dance floor) by the use of digital delays on each of the different cabinets, and possibly even between the different drivers in each cabinet.
There was an extreme amount of engineering EAW "avalon" series system. Lots of time and money was spend designing that system for that space.
The Funktion 1 at vangaurd on the other hand, while a very capable system, it does not seem like they put as much engineering effort into the design of it for that space. Almost like they just slapped down a bunch of money for some high-end equipment and plopped them down in their big room (I'm sure some thought occurred, just not as much as seems like for avalon).
I will now continue drinking myself retarded... |

Do you work with sound? donniebrasco works with sound, that's what we call credibility. All you have is a great sense of humor and a funny sig. So until you work with sound, I'm going to have to take donnie's sound working advice on this one. |

I believe the correct phrase you are looking for is "yeahwhatevernateshutup" or possibly even "nategoyourself". Both of which are completely acceptable here. |

wow i spend the night out and work the next day and i got three pages of reading on my hands. thanks for all the suggestions. I don't mind house too much, but i prefer to spin trance, and an answer to a question way earlier would be "pills" if anything ahah.
i've been in new york every friday for the past 2 months or so. This vacation is luckily at a time where nothing big is happening in the NYC. I might take the party hop advice. I'm gonna have to read everything again and then try to figure something out.
thanks for all the help everybody! |

Well, are you sure you're not confusing loudness with "good" sound? To the uninitiated, volume is often equated with "quality". Avalon's system certainly SOUNDS louder, but as far as frequency separation, I find Vanguard's system to be better over-all.
Hey, I'm not saying Vanguard's system is PERFECT. Any system is bound to have some dead spaces. But when I listen to music, I would rather hear ALL of it, as opposed to just feeling the bass. I've left Avalon on more than one occasion with my ears painfully ringing...sure sign that it's turned up way too loud...and that in itself creates response problems too, even if it was dialed in correctly to begin with. It's all inter-related.
I know EAW set up Avalon's system...but as was pointed out, it does depend on who's Engineering that night too. In-correct EQ and level control can ruin any system, even if it happened to be perfect to begin with (which i don't think Avalon's ever can be, just by the nature of the lay-out) ;) |

| what's this "tentation" in newport beach? it's a thursday, and it's the crystal method, who i've seen before (i think at pacha, maybe crobar when it was still open) can't remember. They are bit slower, but I'd still like to see them. Is that place any good? |

Actually it's more like "donnie please unplug your router". But whatever. |

But yah, if you only love trance, than knock yourself out in the great black hole that is "Circus" ;) |

Yes, it really is a nice venue. I think you'll enjoy it...and you'll get to meet the O.C. crowd too...be sure and get your bling on! :tongue2
And if anyone takes your picture, make sure to flip them off as they do...because everyone does it and it will make you look tough! |
