I forgot to mention something to the thread starter... I have yet to see or hear any complaints from any out-of-towner's first or only visit to CIRCUS. ;)

That's because one can't say that they "missed out" by going to Circus, if they have never been anywhere else in L.A. and thus, had nothing to compare it to. ;)
:tongue2 ....sorry, couldn't resist! lol :tongue3
OK, zipping it for good now! :toothless

AHP |
dxsire; AHP is short for "After Hour Power". This event often goes on after the main show at Avalon (around 4am). While it feels like a seamless transition from the previous event, the crowd and the music take a noticeable nose-dive in quality, over-all.
But then again, I don't know. I mean, if you have SERIOUS issues, and addiction problems, coupled with confusion about your sexual identity, you may find that the transvestite go-go dancers speak to your soul...as do the steroid abusers, the meth-heads, and some of the nastiest club chicks L.A. has ever coughed up from it's streets. It could end up being a life-changing experience.................if you can consider wallowing in the gutter an "experience".
On the topic of AHP, I doubt you'll find too much descent amongst the people here....that's the GOOD news! :D |

I went once. I think it was the 4 year anniversary. I thought they did a really good job with production. They have semi hot go go dancers. But I know there are negatives also. |

Do the club hopping. They're all pretty close to each other.
RED@Circus tomorrow will just have local DJs playing in different rooms. Definitely some good tunes but no big fancy DJ coming through tomorrow til next Saturday 12/29.
Giant@Vanguard = DJ Dan & Donald Glaude plus I think they still have Hip-Hop in a different room.
Avaland = ummmm, starting with parking, the fee already takes a big chunk of your money. I haven't checked on who's playing so I can say much about that. |

| I wont need to park. I'm taking cabs or maybe even getting a ride. Not sure how its going to work but I definitely won't have my own car out there unfortunately. Unless anybody knows of a place where I can rent a car being only 21? Any knowledge of that? |

DJ AM tomorrow at Avalon.
And parking at Avalon isn't going to be terrible, you just have to know which lot to park in. Don't park right next door because it's $20, across the street is $15. But there's a lot on Hollywood and Argyle that's usually used for the Henry Fonda and it's only $8. |

| oh i'm used to paying like 40 in new york anyway. but for the past few months i've been able to find street parking so that's cool. the club scene isn't really where it used to be, and now that it's a bit more uptown, parking is usually free. |

Did you honestly not notice the broad shoulders, the strong adam's-apple, and the tightly squashed package in the lingerie of the she-male go-go's?
Hey, I'm not judging. If you think that's hot, more power to you. You go, bro! You go! I'm just asking....
It is possible that you went on a night when they weren't there for some reason. It happens from time to time (to the dismay of the regulars, I'm sure).

^^^Aaah...spoken like a true, professional partier. Only the hard-cores know about that lot, lol ;)
dxsire; There's also a metro station at Hollywood & Vine, about a block from the clubs Avalon & Vanguard...which are only 4 blocks apart themselves. So depending on where you're coming from (or going to), you may be able to actually use a subway in L.A.! Be sure and tell the rest of us what it was like if you do, because lord knows, we never use it, lol. But it may actually work for you, since you don't have a car. Cabbing in this city is brutally expensive...much, much worse than New York...and on top of it, the cabbies in this town are truly clueless and get lost REGULARLY, I you not.
As for Saturday night, I'd pick one venue and stick with it. Unless you get bored at one and really want to move again. Then, be sure you get to the other one no later than 2am, I'd say, because two of the clubs (Vanguard & Circus) MUST close by law at 4am. Avalon can and usually does go later, but with all the disadvantages already mentioned.
Have fun out there! Be sure and report back your impressions of the L.A. club scene. ;) |
