Bud,
What difference does it make?
You sound like you're proud to be Italian cause of the Mob.
We live in a society that glorifies the "bad guy". Its pretty fahking sad when you think about how brainwashed we are. And btw, innocent people die all the time, even by the hands of organized "mobsters". |
not glorifying it...just stating a fact you want to talk arts, science, music and other accomplishments...i'll be glad to but thats not what this thread pertains too...i agree that we glorify this facet of our society, probably because we are curious or have a desire to know and experience the lifestyle... |

no lie, at one point...especially directly to italy...italian americans have lost that link and are looked down upon by others in the old country as opposed to canadian mafioso, the pizza connection in the 80's, alot of hits on NY families were carried out by italian canadians
in my town al capone used to run booze underground and frequent one of our downtown hotel/bars, they recently found a diary..just for reference sleeman brewery and capone had a partnership...now the sleeman mansion has been turned into a strip club |

just to add the american italian mob is a lot different then in canada and in italy, in the us they mix i.e. napolitano's with siciliano's and so on
here and in italy for the most part that dosent happen, the sicilians, calabrese, napolitans stay segregated.
The NY guys are a bit flashier like the limelight, people like John Gotti who actually wasn't too respected amongst his peers because of his flash...when theres a mob bust here its usually in a simple neighborhood and house...no flashy cars and so on |

I would say the biggest players in Canada had to do with the Pizza Connection (just like you said). When Galante (a zip from New York/sicily) started up the heroin trade, he found it easier to smuggle into Montreal and THEN into the states and to the Zips on Knickerbocker. hence the beginning of the canadian connections. The New York and Buffalo bosses back in the day did some work with Montreal men, but nothing substantial beyond the pizza connection.
In terms of the hits you are speaking about, most of them were carried about on the zips, because they were not welcomed by the canadian/italian/ AND american mafias. They were pissed that the Sicilians would just SEND over made men and the local mafias were forced to accept them. a lot of tension between the two.
Understood that there is some mafia influence in Canada, but to say that the history of the families are bigger there than in New York, Florida, Chicago and Milwalkee is far-fetched and just not true. And not something I would particularly be bragging about either (not to say you are, but, going back to a previous post, I find it absurd when people talk about their region being tougher, or more filled with mafia, etc). I hate the way the media glorifies gangster living (whether street thugs or organized crimes) because in reality, they cause a huge headache to the people around them. No doubt there are mafia connections everywhere, but when I understood you are saying that they were huge players I had to chuckle. |
