Toronto has done an excellent job at hiding "ghettos" from the general public. Low-rise apartment building projects are generally dispersed throughout the city and isolated, as to minimize the obvious dangers. Whether that is good or bad I don't know. It is also highly unlikely a tourist would ever stumble upon a dangerously rough neighborhood unless specifically trying to do so. That being said, I still wouldn't want to be caught at night around: J&F, Malvern part of Scarlem, What police dub "The Jungle" (projects around the dufferin/lawrence area), certain areas of Rexdale, and of course, Regent Park.

What seriously? I did some apartment hunting there, and have been doing my grocery shopping there for the last 2+ years. I've never seen or noticed anything out of place. It's just full of old people.

Bad, and poor, yet there are still Dominions around there. I never understood how they monopolized the center of Toronto.

A few people I know have been robbed at the Jane and Steeles area.

Bro.. you do realize you're on TRANCEADDICT!

Trance is for the rude boys.

you sound like a highschool kid. you should type in ebonics just to prove how bad ass you really are

joo gaddit meng. :p

I would've hoped the " :toothless " would've signaled to you that it was said Tongue in Cheek... but I guess you didn't quite 'get it'. Anyways, still doesn't change the fact that on TOTA most people aren't even from here (T.O.) and talk like they know about this place. If you hang around Yonge & Eglinton most of the time, your chances of running into trouble aren't likely to happen. We're lucky that T.O. isn't like the states where random violence is prevalent and things can happen to you at anytime. But not to say that stuff doesn't happen here. All of the places mentioned so far (and the ones you've included) aren't to be taken likely if and when you ever catch yourself there. Me personally, I grew up in Jane & Finch and then moved to 'Jungle' right after until I was in my early teens. I was fortunate enough to have left the areas and actually do something with my life.

Ev...music (let alone where I post) shouldn't or doesn't reflect steet cred. I wasn't really ever into too much either way...but I've seen enough go down to know that this city is far from being a push over like many Americans and out-of-towner's seem to think. I've seen a number of Americans come to the mentioned areas thinking cause they're from NYC that they can come and do what they want here, only to find out real quickly that they whole 'I'm from NYC' novelty ends pretty fast the second they try to 'run tings'.

are you trying to say t.o. is tough?

Over MTL....sure. By a landslide.

I don't know why but walking around the Hammer even on a Wednesday night made me quite anxious tonight. For a downtown area there were very few cars on the road in comparison to strangely dressed old men/locals/homeless asking for many things I could not provide.
