Problem on TA is not the critics but the one-sidedness of their's,
there is a small number of members prevalent who take it upon themselves to enlighten
pretty much anyone who cares to visit here on the proper definition of something that
when it comes down to is merely a feeling.
Feelings are personal and perhaps the most personal thing that no one else can
exactly reproduce, everyone feels in their own way towards whichever issue.
That issue being here is music, rather than simply establish a technological blueprint
for every genre of music, it makes more practical sense to use definitions which majority will agree with.
Of course every individual weighs their own respective value, but in grand scale of things
when it comes to an audience which I believe listeners fall under to, it is better
to go with the before mentioned majority of people.
Simply because someone X doesn't like something n, it does not mean that
the matter is unworthy, in fact it could be worth a great deal to someone Y.
Music is not tangible, it can be only heard and ultimately felt, and as OP stated
there is no way to predict or know how each and every person will react to hearing a specific sound.
Simplified, problem with trance is the name, trance - a simple word.
People who cling on to the most rudimentary of trance definitions will never accept
the fact that trance became a synonym for many other similar but yet not quite the same sounds.
Many people have gotten rid of the word completely, some tried to change it's meaning,
apply it to today's standards and state of the market and target audience.
Audience today (us) has been pretty much left abandoned by the actual creators of music,
thus we're left alone to battle it between ourselves to determine
what is right and what is wrong, ironically no matter what we say will make no difference
to the situation on a bigger scale.
The problem ultimately is that people don't want to soften their positions/arguments and allow
some flexibility into the sound and into the audience, in TA terms -
"if you're not with us, you're against us", I think that's wrong and I hope that changes in the future. |
see, the beauty with this type of posting is if you look at it long enough, you see an old man's face in profile. |

| IntoTrance, are you trying to abolish feelings of elitism for other genres of music, or are you trying to establish one for trance? I'm beginning to lose track. |

His posts typify the genre in question back when it was true to form. You stare out into space for a while, searching for definition, while being devoid of any emotion. A near out of body experience is what many attribute to this foray into introspective venturing. Soon enough you realize it is merely mindless drivel, and some turn away at this point, whereas some realize there is beauty in the lack of things.
His posts, they are art. |

I'm pointing out how out of touch and cynical the community has become. I'm not trying to abolish feelings of elitism for other genres of music or tryin to establish one for trance and I only discuss that in Point Four. |

I've seen this used before. I agree.
To knowingly use this statement in any context is appalling, let alone to use it with regard to such a certain type of music (which in itself is vast and expansive, evolving and progressing). |

| i like trance. i buy trance, i sell trance, i eat trance, i drink trance, i put people into a trance, however I cannot for the life of me fathom your point here. The trance I like adheres to my own high personal standards and if other people want to hate on that because I don't just listen to any old guff then so be it, but threads like this make me want to go emo. |

this used to be a trance event, right?
notice the heavy use of marketing and the distinct lack of dance music... |
