its not, they're heat shield type things
the line across the top is a fin, the bottom left is a hole.
The shield helps with extracting hot air from the brakes, more efficient than just having an open wheel. Similar to the ones they have on tha back except those just have a narrow centre hole.
They atarted using them last year. I think they look incredibly stupid done up to look like the wheel. |
+1
I think these wheel cover brake cooler things are ing retarded. Just allow them to make the brake ducts bigger ffs!! These look like the ty wheel-covers on some budget rent-a-car.
And re; The US GP - somebody needs to get some money together and host the US GP at Mid-Ohio, Elkhart Lake WI, Road Atlanta or Laguna Seca. These are top quality road courses that would be great for F1 in the US. Laguna will never happen though due to the hippies complaining about the noise. This has already put the MotoGP races there in jeopardy. Mid-Ohio, Elkhart Lake or Road Atlanta would be great. They just need to re-surface the track and add some more run-off space.
The main objector to this might be the ChumpCar series since they wouldn't want to be seen as slower than F1 cars since they bill themselves as the pinnacle of motorsport in the US. Sure, for a US domestic series that logic works - but not against the best of the best. Hell, the F3000 cars are probably quicker. |

Ferrari topped testing today, Massa doing qualy-sims and putting a much quicker time than everyone else, and Raikkonen doing long runs and still being slightly quicker than everyone else.
The surprise was the brand new Williams with Rosberg, 3rd quickest overall behind the Ferraris, matching the McLarens on the long runs.
Also surprisingly BMW sucked today, with Heidfeld complaining about balance problems in the car, while Toyota seem to be ed as well. Red Bull didn't impress neither. |

Comments:
I believe Kova's superlap was on lower fuel and Mac-Ferrari are both about matched, or even with Ferrari quicker. There's some info around that Massa's best lap was at the end of a 9 laps stint, for example. And Ferrari haven't tested their full new aero package yet (altho it's likely many teams will introduce new elements to their cars as well).
Williams confirms they are here for real, close to Mac and Ferrari.
Renault aren't bad and close to the top teams as well.
BMW are ed. There seems to be some confusion on who drove the 2008 car today, Heidfeld or Kubica, either way the car is a big disappointment.
Red Bull seems coming better a bit now but they haven't really impressed yet.
Honda had an absolute disaster of a first day, the car having lots of problems and being massively slow.
Toyota: :haha:
Good time for Sutil in the Force India IMO.
Toro Rosso are doing fine with an updated 2007 car.
Super Aguri aren't testing again and the rumour is they are in serious money trouble. I hope they'll still make it to the grid. |

| quote: | MADRID, Spain -- British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton suffered racist abuse from Spanish fans during testing at the Montmelo circuit in Barcelona, Spanish media reported on Sunday.
Reports in a number of papers said the McLaren driver was booed and insulted whenever he made his way from the team motorhome and into the pits on Saturday.
The correspondent from sports daily Marca said that racially charged comments aimed at the black driver were clearly heard and he said that large sections of the crowd was involved.
"It is not right the way he is being treated," McLaren test team manager Indy Lall was quoted as saying.
Marca said that the circuit director asked for fences to be put up around the McLaren paddock and ordered the removal of banners that had been put up opposite the team's base.
Daily La Vanguardia also said the circuit director had reminded fans of their obligations at the venue.
"We would like to make a plea to the fans to behave correctly, no type of offensive behavior can be tolerated," circuit director Ramon Pradera was quoted as saying in the newspaper.
Hamilton, who finished runner-up in last year's championship, has become a hated figure in Spain because of his rivalry with former McLaren teammate Fernando Alonso, who now drives for Renault.
Incidents of racism have plagued Spanish sport, in particular soccer, in recent years. |
It's sad some of the Alonso supporters had to stoop this low to show how much. |

| that is a ing shame. Alonso needs to make some sort of appeal to his fans |

Racist ass holes. All because they were too stupid to see that Alanso got beat fair and square.
This coupled with the news papers, and the Spanish Sporting Director making unpleasant comments him self, this seems like a culture more than a few fans.
Strip Spain of at least one GP. If they want to hate on a great driver so much, don't let them watch it. |
