I agree, and this is also part of the problem

Craig, it's really just not even worth your time - the fact alone that emc^2 thinks he can continually cite the deleted thread as if it were brought back from the dead he'd be completely vindicated makes any argument null from the outset. Beyond that, everything he's brought up has really just been apples and oranges comparisons (i.e. "I want cheaper gas, but look at all the things we need oil for!" - what the does that even mean?).

I'd really love for any mod to head to the trash bin and just copy the initial post from the old thread just so this whole business can be put to rest.

And you have to love the "dare" to find any evidence "contradicting the need for change" - come the on, are we five here? The only change that this kid asked for was cheaper gas.

I dunno if I would go that far yet. There is still some question as to the impact of greenhouse gases (sorry Al Gore). However, there is no question that there is a limited amount of oil/gas and some s are wasting it just because they can and they are driving the price up for all of us. Those people purchasing oil/gas wasting products (low mpg cars/trucks, private jets, large boats, massive homes, etc) should pay a massive tax to discourage their purchase since it is obvious that high fuel prices won't do it.

So a tax on gas at the pump? Any one time tax would be insufficient.

That's the kind of thing I might do.

Exactly.

The American public can whine all they'd like out gas prices, and maybe they could even *gasp* drive less  , and yet still never see a decrease in the price of gasoline.

You can't fight an international monopoly like OPEC. It's just not going to happen.

No, a tax at the pump hurts everyone, even those who have cars that get 30-40 mpg. The tax should be at the time of purchase for any new or used car or truck that gets under a certain mpg rating. And like I said I'm not talking the joke Gas Guzzler tax like we have now, I'm talking something substantial like 200% or more of the cost of the vehicle. You go to the dealer and buy a $60K H2 that gets 10 mpg and you pay $120K in gas guzzler tax on that.

I just don't like any plan that retools what I think is a failed system.

We can tax gas for vehicles that consume unnecessary amounts of fuel, but if we continue to rely on a system that absolutely requires petroleum as our main energy source we'll still inevitably wind up at a point where we either see significantly dwindling natural resources (which some would say we are already) or we absolutely massacre the environment (I don't think there's nearly as much to debate about greenhouse gases as I think you might).

Continued reliance on fossil fuels (to the points we are right now) may make things a bit financially easier for the time being (as opposed to the massive amounts of money the public would have to invest in renewable energy programs), but it still just seems like procrastinating on a much larger and important issue that we'll still have to deal with eventually.

Eliminate carbon credits, and GHGs will be lowered pretty quickly or businesses shut down.

This reminds me of when I used to play Command & Conquer.
It's the same situation, just with Tiberium instead of oil: limited resources that are recklessly exploited, and inevitably, me and the other guys on the map used to go for each others throats.
Well, except for that one game, where we decided to do things different. We said "Hey, let's not use up all the Tiberium. Why are we enemies anyway?!" and decided to build wind- and water turbines, and exchanged our tanks for bicycles, and soon the landscape would blossom, and beautiful flowers began to grow over our fearsome war machines, and the women and children came from their hideouts and filled the air with their soft voices, and our soldiers celebrated in unity, and we used the Chronosphere to bring over Jimi Hendrix and had a huge party in the open.
Then I realised I had smoked too much weed, and have been nuked by my opponent. :(

Holly Moses on a puking donkey! What the f*ck is your beef with me, Rob?! You know, I really would like to see the thread restored, if possible. If it's at all a possiblity, I hope one of the mods can accomodate that.

You sit there pointing fingers, meanwhile you haven't said a word to support your statement that's so prominently displayed in my sig.

Rob, truth be told, if you were on fire I wouldn't even pi$$ on you to put it out and your opinion of me matters as much as the fart I ripped last year. I could really give two sh!ts about vindicating myself in front of a low-life puke as yourself. Oh noes! Rob thinks bad things about me! Aw lawdy, what is I to do?

Though I do want to see the thread again if for nothing else to show how full of sh!t you trully is.

Have a nice day.
