Here's the problem with the argument you're making - it all relies on the assumption that we absolutely need oil, gasoline, and automobiles and cannot function without it.

That premise alone is a complete fallacy. You're more than welcome to try and "prove" to me that it isn't, but you won't.

Have you advised Obama of your brilliant plan or are you still working on it? I feel very compelled to use this in my sig as the most assinine thing I've heard thus far this year, if not EVAR.

Though, I do expect you to fling some lame insults as you dig your heels in and try to convince everyone in viability and reality of your pipe dream. ;)

I didn't realize it pays to be a douchebag.

Perfect Example - Brian McCabe, Huge Douchebag, gets paid millions....

Second Example - Stephen Harper, Equally as large of a douche, makes less than millions, but more than me...

Thrid Example - Moral Hazard, despite how much i do like and respect him, he is still an insurance adjuster, and by defenition anyone working for or in association with an insurance institution are major douchebags, and also in turn make a pretty good ammount of money...

-I rest my case

I have a serious question. Is there anything as consumers that we can do to have the price lowered? My favorite is when people boycott gas for a day, and just get gas on other days. Yeah that'll show those darn gas companies!

we should develop a car that runs on methane and then have 4 days a week where taco bell gives away free bean burritos with extra hot sauce...... im pretty sure i could get about 200 Km to the burrito in one of those cars....

Unlike Europe, where most towns were designed with mass transit in mind and industry surrounding it, in US - the same concept does not apply, unless you're in a major metropolitan area like Manhattan.

You mean Europe, like the continent? The one where all the towns and villages were founded hundreds if not thousands of years ago? I'm sure they were very concerned with the amount of diesel a city bus uses on a trip between towns all the way back in the dark ages. WTF?

When is it that you think Europe was designed? 1998?

The majority of roadways in Europe are derivitive of old cart tracks. Ever wonder why London is such a ing maze and New York is a grid? New York was designed, Europe evolved.

The exception, of course, being the parts of Europe we bombed into the stone age during WWII.

PS...you have FAIL written on your forehead.

Well, as consumers we're at mercy of the system. So, while boycott may not yeild desirable results, voting with your dollar will. I know that my next car will be a hybrid. I also have reduced car trips to whatever is bare minimum. I now combine errands to save on additional trips or wait until my next task requires me to drive.

I also had to cut "optional" expenses, such as dining out or buying crap like DVDs or CDs.

You can stick your head in the sand all you want but reality of it is that unless consumers alter their purchasing behavior, the pricing won't change. If manufacturers continue selling gas guzzlers more than fuel-efficient vehichles, there will be no big incentive to continue to produce more economical modes of transportation.

Consumers can also take more interest in laws and bills being passed that favor big oil companies and not companies that are working on developing fuel-efficient cars. You can vote out the politicians who continue sending billions of your tax dollars to oil companies instead of subsidizing companies that are researching alternative fuel sources.

I know it's a lot to ask of your average consumer, who'd rather pay extra at the fuel pump than take an initiative to change something.

RJT, dude - not to bust on you but seriously, I know it sounds a bit naive but it does start with one person. If every person thinks that nothing can be done - nothing will be done.
