You mean Europe, like the continent? The one where all the towns and villages were founded hundreds if not thousands of years ago? I'm sure they were very concerned with the amount of diesel a city bus uses on a trip between towns all the way back in the dark ages. WTF?
When is it that you think Europe was designed? 1998?
The majority of roadways in Europe are derivitive of old cart tracks. Ever wonder why London is such a ing maze and New York is a grid? New York was designed, Europe evolved.
The exception, of course, being the parts of Europe we bombed into the stone age during WWII.
PS...you have FAIL written on your forehead. |
I have misworded the sentence. I did read it and realized the error - I meant to say that mass transit system and industry have developed around the towns, making public commute a reality. I appreciate you pointing it out so politely and unoffensively. |

I agree on all points, but unfortunately there's too many s driving cars that are far too big for their own good. Some car company (Ford?) has an SUV that's a hybrid. Good start I suppose seeing as how too many soccer moms need SUVs. |

I posted and subsequently deleted a thread about gas prices being stupidly high without much of a REAL reason for them being so high. Due to an overwhelming influx of hate posts, implying that gas prices should be this high and who are we to challenge the system prompted me to delete it.
JP decided to mock the original thread by starting this one.
and there you are.
p.s. change your preferences to display 40 posts/page and you will only have to read 2 pages of crap. Waste not, recycle interwebz bits! |

Well, as consumers we're at mercy of the system. So, while boycott may not yeild desirable results, voting with your dollar will. I know that my next car will be a hybrid. I also have reduced car trips to whatever is bare minimum. I now combine errands to save on additional trips or wait until my next task requires me to drive.
I also had to cut "optional" expenses, such as dining out or buying crap like DVDs or CDs.
You can stick your head in the sand all you want but reality of it is that unless consumers alter their purchasing behavior, the pricing won't change. If manufacturers continue selling gas guzzlers more than fuel-efficient vehichles, there will be no big incentive to continue to produce more economical modes of transportation.
Consumers can also take more interest in laws and bills being passed that favor big oil companies and not companies that are working on developing fuel-efficient cars. You can vote out the politicians who continue sending billions of your tax dollars to oil companies instead of subsidizing companies that are researching alternative fuel sources.
I know it's a lot to ask of your average consumer, who'd rather pay extra at the fuel pump than take an initiative to change something.
RJT, dude - not to bust on you but seriously, I know it sounds a bit naive but it does start with one person. If every person thinks that nothing can be done - nothing will be done. |
What you're saying doesn't make any sense.

You talk about consumers changing their purchasing habits, yet demand cheap oil and gas. You say things like "You want us to go back to horse and buggies?" without even acknowledging alternative energy sources. Your entire position relies so heavily on the mindset that we absolutely need both oil and cars, yet you want people to change their purchasing habits?
Like you do. You want things to stay exactly the same as they are right now, and the only difference you seek is that you want it cheaper. People like you are the problem, not the solution.
So unless you like talking out of both sides of your mouth and arguing in favor of contradictions, I'd say it's you who needs to take his head out the sand here, not anyone else.
And you haven't "busted on" me in the least. You're just wrong. |
