pretty much all of my cousins have at least 1 kid. My brother has 1 too.
I'm so not ready for kids. Maybe 10 years down the track, but right now I look at the kids and think "why the hell would I want to put myself through that". I had dinner with 2 pairs of cousins last night, me, 2 pairs of parents and 5 kids all under 6 years old. Hell no. Every time I'm around little kids it just reinforces my feelings that I'm a long way off wanting kids.
Having said that I do have two pictures of my nephew which I always smile and makes me feel happy when I look at them, which has never happened before with baby pics (and its not just that he's cute, cos he aint). |

| Crackheads should not be allowed to have kids. That pretty much rules out 80 percent of this forum. |

kids are vermin, parents & breeders are scum. I say this living next to a school where every day these obnoxious mostly 200lb+ women drop their little ******s off, litter our streets, park across our driveways and generally piss me off. With the stupid people breeding like flies, intelligence is dying out quickly, I wouldn't want to bring anyone into this world. Unless Echos drugged me, then I spose I'd happily do so, but only if she works to feed them, I'll train them for a life in the circus :D |
LMFO.
The world is over populated as it is , Im working all day just to pay the rent and survive and there is un-employed families breeding like rats getting everything for free and it really pisses me off. I would love to have children and raise them in a safe and stable environment with my fiancé soon to be wife but in reality we couldn't afford it unless we moved to a smaller house and rough area which I don't plan to do.
In reality people should have to have a stable income and to pass a test before becoming a parent these days. I also think with the media and technology kids are growing up to fast the other day I saw a 8 year old on a mobile phone calling her friends, I didn't get a mobile until I was 14.

A guy I knew (who has four kids) once told me something interesting regarding this...
He said that the "financially ready" thing is basically an illusion, because people's desires tend to increase steadily with their financial means. The more money you make, the more stuff you end up wanting (and taking for granted). So to an extent it really doesn't matter how long you wait -- you'll always be stretching your finances, unless for some reason you become remarkably wealthy or thrifty.
I think that he's basically right. |

If you think about it, it is a half-assed bull myth. The "financially ready" thing means that you aren't squeaking by with the bare necessities on $10/hr. What it means to be financially ready, is they have the means to alter their lifestyle, sacrifice things they are used to having with their level of income, and therefore are able to "create" the money they need to support having a child.
What your friend should have said is this. The more you make the more you spend. Period. Even if you have 1 kid at 20 and you progressively make more money, you spend more. It has nothing to do with any sort of illusion. It has to do with people's concept of need vs want. |

because whenever I get a "raise" I feel like it didn't help much.
So I guess once I can afford a HOUSE.. I'll have kids. Now renting ftw. lol |

Well, the typical person is very naïve when it comes to managing their finances. Most people just spend what money they have on whatever it is that they desire, never stopping to ask why they desire it in the first place (and making sure that it's a good reason), nor considering the opportunity cost of their spending (i.e. the money lost that would have been gained if that same amount of money were put towards something that appreciates in value and/or produces additional income.)
Usually they eventually decide to get married, which is not in itself a bad decision except to the extent that it usually prompts an even higher level of needless consumption as the new couple decides that it would be a prudent investment to undertake massive debt so that they can own a home, although if you factor in mortgage interest, property taxes, and upkeep costs such ownership typically results in a greater negative return than simply renting.
Of course then the house must be filled with items which taken altogether cost a very substantial sum themselves. It usually does not take long before "kids" appear in the picture, which often "necessitates" an even larger house and an even larger debt, not to mention all the crap that must be purchased for the kids for the cause of the parent's mistaken belief that it will make their child happier or promote the child's future well-being.
Because of the mortgage burden and child-related expenses our typical couple here has few opportunities to accumulate wealth at this point. Unwittingly, then have essentially condemned themselves to a sort of slavery-lite for most of their lives -- they are forced to work to maintain the lifestyle that they believe they "need," or at the very least, that they believe they could not be satisfied without.
I admit that I have some sympathy for these people. Although they are an extreme source of waste and they have no one to blame but themselves for their situation, it is an outcome that is tragic (in the proper sense of the word) because it was the inevitable result of the flaws in their character. Even so, it would be problematic if too many individuals pursued the accumulation of wealth rather than the cycle of consumption, so perhaps that too is good in a way. |

UGH I can't stand children. They smell, they're loud, and they cost so much money. I don't like kids, at ANY age. I'm the LAST person who will ever volunteer to babysit. If someone brings a kid around me I hand it off to the next person standing next to me.
That was like one of the first topics the new guy and I talked about. "do you want kids" "hell no" "thank god." Even now when we see kids around I look horrified. |
